THE POSITION
The Assistant/Associate Engineer will perform professional traffic engineering and plan checking duties.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Perform new development and capital improvement plan checking specifically related to traffic and transportation improvements.
• Traffic signal operations including; signal timing and coordination plans.
• Review plans for traffic signals, street lighting, signing and striping of streets and interchanges.
• Review traffic studies prepared for land development projects and develop traffic mitigation measures.
• Prepare reports on traffic issues such as flow, volume, circulation patterns, roadway capacity, accidents, parking requirements and projected traffic leads.
• Prepare grant applications for funding of pedestrian, bicycle and school safety facilities.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the work assigned. A typical way to obtain this would be:
Education/Experience - Assistant Engineer: BS Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering. Two (2) years of professional engineering experience in the plan checking, design, construction and contract management of public works projects with at least (1) one year emphasizing traffic engineering projects. Possession of an Engineer-In-Training certificate from the State of California.
Education/Experience - Associate Civil Engineer: A BS Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering. Three (3) years of professional engineering experience, with at least one (1) year comparable to an Assistant Engineer/Traffic. Possession of Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.

Only the MOST qualified applicants will be selected to participate in the testing process, which may include, but is not limited to, application appraisal and oral interview. Selected candidate must complete and pass a pre-employment physical examination, including a drug test, and a background check prior to appointment.

Social Security: The City participates in the Medicare portion only. Employee pays 1.45% of salary with matching contribution paid by City.
