SHIFT WORK IS REQUIRED. As part of the testing process and prior to appointment to a position, City of Oxnard Police Department candidates will be required to undergo a polygraph examination and a thorough background investigation.


 

THE POSITION

The City of Oxnard is currently recruiting for Public Safety Dispatchers to receive 9-1-1 system emergency and non-emergency calls, 7-digit lines, animal control lines and in-house and direct lines from other agencies; and to dispatch assignments according to police and fire procedures. The successful candidate will receive a 3-week POST Dispatch academy, 12 weeks of classroom in-house training and 12 months of on-the-job training. The ability and willingness to work any shift in a 24-hour period, including holidays, weekends, scheduled and emergency overtime, and be available for call back is required.

The ideal candidate will possess a high energy and enthusiasm for assisting the public, public safety personnel and other stakeholders; a genuine interest in serving the needs of the community; team oriented and an effective communicator; excellent multi-tasking skills in a fast paced environment; a willingness to learn new tasks as well as perform routine tasks at an optimal level of performance; and perform other duties as assigned.

If you have taken the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher written test within the last 30 days of our written test, you are ineligible to take the City of Oxnard’s test. You will need to submit the “official” T-score on that agency’s letterhead. A copy can be hand-delivered to the address below, emailed to suzan.sainsbury@ci.oxnard.ca.us or faxed in at (805) 385-8352. T-scores older than 30 days will not be accepted. Ideal Candidate:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE– High school diploma or GED.
CERTIFICATION – A 5-minute timed typing certificate with a net rate of 30 wpm within the last three months will be required at the time of the written test. Typing certificates are only accepted from specific locations. For more information regarding typing certificates, please contact Human Resources or visit www.hr.cityofoxnard.org
LICENSE Possession of a valid class “C” California driver’s license and must meet the City of Oxnard’s driving standards of no more than three moving citations within the past two years.
