The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the position of Electrical Drafting Technician II for Roseville Electric The normal work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A flexible schedule may be available.
Performs a variety of technical engineering and drafting duties in the construction, maintenance, or removal of utility facilities; and performs related work as required.
This is the full journey-level class within the Electrical Drafting Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Electrical Drafting Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance from the New Services Manager as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or, when filled from the outside, require prior electrical drafting experience.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assists in the research and design of residential, commercial, and street light jobs; draws construction maps using computer aided drafting equipment; performs field research and prepares reports of substandard lighting; makes recommendations for light additions; completes necessary requisitions and job maps; researches existing facilities, right-of-ways, and future developments; performs site elevations; makes site plans and profiles for intended construction sites; maintains current electric system maps; produces photocopies, computerized plotted maps, specifications, and presentations; performs skilled drafting work such as preparing original construction drawings involving plans, profiles, cross-sections, elevations, schematics and construction details, and limited design work; answers questions regarding City policy, construction standards and requirements; field checks a variety of construction aspects as assigned; requests office equipment and supplies; serves on various committees.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college level courses in drafting, engineering, mathematics or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of responsible electrical drafting experience comparable to that of an Electrical Drafting Technician I in the City of Roseville.
Knowledge of: Elementary principles of construction and architecture and of algebra and geometry as applied to engineering; fundamental principles of electricity; drafting procedures and equipment; modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment including databases, word processing, and spreadsheets. Applicant must demonstrate a competency in computer aided drafting software and equipment. Line construction methods and materials; City policies and procedures.
Ability to: Learn line construction methods and materials; learn and applying City policies and procedures; learn to operate computer assisted drafting equipment to design maps and drawings. Apply City policies and procedures; proficiently operate computer assisted drafting equipment to design maps and drawings.
On a Continuous Basis: Know and understand operations, assignments, and observe safety rules; know, understand, interpret and explain department policies, procedures, rules and regulations; sit at desk or in meetings for a long period of time; twist to reach equipment surrounding desk; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; lift drafting materials, equipment and supplies; use telephone, computer and communicate through written means.
Working Conditions: On a continuous basis, work indoor in an office environment; intermittently travel to job/projects site (s) in vehicle to conduct field inspections; may be exposed to noise, dust, machinery, moving objects or other vehicles, slippery or uneven surfaces and electrical energy; occasionally may be exposed to varying climate and temperature conditions while in the field.
License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Applications will be screened to the most qualified candidates. Those candidates will be invited to an oral interview exam weighted 100%. Scores earned from the oral exam will establish the Employment List. Candidates within the top five ranked scores will be certified to the department for final consideration. Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid pre-employment medical exam, a drug and alcohol screening test, and a fingerprint check.
