THE POSITION


The Part-time Transit Travel Trainer / Marketing Assistant performs a variety of skilled duties related to Petaluma Transit, including marketing duties, outreach, group classes, and one-on-one training to customers and potential customers of Petaluma Transit. The position is a single class position that encourages public transit ridership through various promotions including personalized individual training.  This position is funded by a federal New Freedoms grant for the development and implementation of a travel training program, to maximize the effectiveness and use of Fixed-Route transit services.



 


This position will require an average of 20 hours per week, with occasions of up to 30 hours per week, and will typically be Monday through Thursday with occasional evening and weekend events. The hours are generally flexible with occasional Friday and Weekend work depending upon the program needs.



 


QUALIFICATIONS


Education:        An Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in marketing, communications, planning, business, or related field. 


A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in a related field is desirable.


 


Substitution:     Additional years of experience demonstrating the possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities, (preferably in a transit environment) conducting trainings, marketing events and promotions, and/or performing customer service-related duties can substitute for the required education.


 


Experience:       Two years of responsible work experience working in a communications, outreach, marketing and/or customer service environment assisting individuals to sample and expand use of a product or program.  Exposure to public transportation is a plus.  Knowledge of the City of Petaluma and the Bay Area public transit services is highly desirable.


 


License:            Possession of a valid California Class C driver license.



 


POSITION DUTIES


 


Perform a variety of marketing duties related to the Petaluma Transit Services.


 


Perform outreach to organize and deliver group classes and one-on-one trainings to customers and potential customers. Schedule trips and other events. Lead group public transit trips both within and outside the City of Petaluma with the goal of familiarizing new riders with the benefits and ease of using public transit.


 


Utilize Adobe Creative Suites to produce, develop, prepare, and distribute Petaluma Transit communication materials including posters, car cards, brochures, flyers, etc.


 


Work cooperatively with other transit staff to identify customers who would benefit from learning to use the fixed route Petaluma transit services.


 


Identify and contact organizations that work with seniors and persons with disabilities to promote the program.


 


Develop and implement themed promotional marketing campaigns in support of Petaluma Transit.


 


Evaluate effectiveness of various promotional campaigns and recommend modifications as needed.


 


Develop a “Bus Buddy” program with volunteers interested in providing one-on-one travel training.


 


Answer inquiries from the public over the telephone and in person. Staff booth at events.


 


Take ownership of, and expand scope of, existing network of information centers in the Petaluma Community.


 


Perform related duties as assigned.
