Salary: $7,193.47 - $8,679.70 Monthly

Under minimal direction, to perform complex professional Civil Engineering work related to the planning, design, construction and inspection of City facilities and public works facilities infrastructure; to review and approve private development plans, to manage programs and to do related work as required. 

This is a high level professional Civil Engineering classification. An employee in this classification performs the most difficult and challenging design, inspection and computation duties, consistent with someone who has obtained a high level of proficiency in the area assigned. Incumbents typically work independently, may direct others on a project basis and make decisions related to design and inspection. Incumbents are expected to perform with a high degree of independence, and assume a level of responsibility consistent with their advanced knowledge and experience.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will perform necessary field work, prepare plans, specifications, contract documents and cost estimates for City projects; perform plan checks and site plan checks of plans submitted to the CityDepartments; contact project engineers to have corrections made or additional information supplied as required; approve calculations and site plans, noting items which deserve particular attention in field inspection; checks proposed subdivision maps and improvement plans; discusses major deficiencies with the supervisor; directs the party submitting the maps or plans to make any necessary corrections or additions; as necessary, prepares memoranda and reports to supervisory staff, makes staff recommendations and presentation on proposed subdivisions before submission to the Planning Commission, Council and other legislative bodies; discusses complaints with the public and determines the nature of the problem; performs or supervises engineering studies necessary to analyze the problems; proposes solutions to engineering problems; answers questions of the public regarding public works issues; may act as City liaison or represent the City before regional agencies.


Vacation:   Progressive, paid vacation starting with 11 days per year.

Sick Leave:   8 hours per month.
Health Insurance: City contribution towards medical coverage.
Holidays: 11 holidays and 4-1/4 floating days off with pay per year.
Dental & Vision: City reimbursement plan. There is a six months’ waiting period.
Retirement: Public Employees’ Retirement System
Deferred Compensation: Voluntary.
Life Insurance: 1-1/2 times regular annual wage.
Long Term Disability: Subject to 90 days waiting period.
