General Description: This internship is in the City Manager's Office and will work on a variety of projects to support the office and the City organization as a whole. A primary responsibility of the intern will be assisting the City's performance management efforts including compilation and review of year-end department performance data and identification of leading practices in the use of performance data. The intern will also conduct research into the City's budget trends and practices relative to other cities as well as innovative budgeting practices. The intern may also assist in other areas such as social media. In addition, the intern will have opportunities to interact with other City interns and participate in professional development activities to get a broad understanding of the operations of a full-service city.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be in the process of earning an undergraduate or graduate degree in public administration, public policy, political science, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based resources
- Ability to prioritize assignments and utilize good organizational skills
- Ability to identify and propose innovative ideas and solutions
- Have an interest in working in local government
Salary and Hours: This internship will be approximately 30-40 hours per week beginning in May/June and last 8-12 weeks. Compensation for this position is a stipend of $2,000 to $3,000 based on length of internship.
