We’re seeking the right combination of skills, values, talents, and experience to take on the role of full-time Parks, Recreation and Community Services Administrative Assistant.  If you are a people person seeking variety and challenge then you’ll find this is an excellent opportunity, and we want to hear from you.


As the full-time Administrative Assistant in the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, you will report directly to the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director and will be involved in many aspects of the Department including budgetary work, administrative staff supervision, management of various projects, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, management of facility usage procedures and practices, support to boards and commissions, and lots more.  The successful candidate will be a key resource to department management staff, providing statistics and other research and analysis materials.  The Administrative Assistant also generally provides management staff support, engages in a variety of research projects, coordinates certain administrative projects, and performs technical and statistical analyses on a variety of administrative issues.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


Education & Experience

Education equivalent to completion of two years of college or possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with major work in public or business administration or a closely related field.  Three years experience providing responsible administrative assistance to management and professional staff in the public or private sector including analytical work is required.   Five years experience with at least two of those years in a supervisory role is highly preferred.


Knowledge of:

·        Principles and practices of organization and change.

·        Research analysis, techniques and methods.

·        Common office equipment including a personal computer,  word processing, spreadsheets or other relevant software.

·        Applicable laws, municipal codes, rules, regulations and policies.

·        Basic budgetary principles and practices.

·        Basic supervisory principles and practices.


Skill to:

·        Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment.  Proficient in utilizing and developing Excel spreadsheets and Word documents required.  Proficient in utilizing Publisher is highly desirable.

·        Effectively and efficiently use the Internet as a resource.


Ability to:

·        Provide excellent customer service, interacting with a wide variety of people, both in-house and with the public.

·        Work in a fast-paced environment performing multiple tasks with patience and flexibility.

·        Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and monitor assignments.

·        Work productively with minimal direction, and proactively seek input in an efficient manner.

·        Plan, direct and review the work of others and train others in work procedures.

·        Analyze complex issues and develop solutions to problems, utilizing appropriate techniques and methodology.

·        Make decisions in accordance with City values and policies.

·        Think and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

·        Use tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment.

·        Organize and maintain accurate records and files.

·        Initiate, question, challenge and implement plans for continuous improvement.
