The City of Menlo Park, population approximately 32,000, is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s premier business and residential communities. The City is currently seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer with excellent technical, analytical and supervisory skills to be a part of our Public Works Team. Under the general direction of the

Transportation Manager, the position would perform professional level program management with a focus on development review and comprehensive planning; provide some supervision of assigned staff and complete other related work, as required. 


Successful applicants are expected to perform with a high degree of independence, and assume a level of responsibility consistent with their advanced knowledge and experience. 


The successful applicant will have the ability to set project level goals and objectives; plan, assign and direct work; provide technical support and review; effectively manage and prioritize large and complex engineering programs, projects and activities; ensure project compliance with appropriate Federal, State and local rules, laws and regulations; use sound judgment in making decisions and recommendations; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; supervise, train and evaluate subordinates; use software effectively; make quick and accurate computations; work cooperatively with the public, other City personnel and other organizations in a team oriented environment. 


Minimum qualifications for this position are:

Experience: Five years of professional civil engineering experience. Two years of supervisory experience is highly desirable. Advanced education may be substituted for experience on a year-to-year basis.

Licenses/Certifications:  Must possess a valid California Driver’s

License.  Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer in the State of California


Working Conditions:  Travel from site to site; subject to noisy and inclement weather conditions; ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Work in an office environment, ability to sustain a sitting position for long periods of times. 


Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
