Intern Positions (2): Community Outreach Intern
Department: San Mateo County Department of Public Works and Parks
Location: Redwood City
Term of Assignment: Part-time (20 - 30 hours/week) for a duration of 10 – 12 weeks. Work schedule Monday through Friday; flexible start dates: May/June.
Salary: This is an unpaid intern position
Intern Supervisor: Carla Schoof, Community Programs
The community outreach intern will work directly with community programs specialist to support and promote key community programs, including Take A Hike, and special volunteer program activities. Under the direction of the Community Programs Specialist, the intern will coordinate activities and events and promote activities using the volunteer database program, Department website, and social media. The intern may be called upon to participate in and represent the Department at events that are scheduled on weekends. The intern may be asked to provide general department support, including responding to emails and database entry and management.
Applicants who are pursuing a degree in or are recent graduates with a degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Affairs, Public Administration, Public Relations, Community Relations or Marketing. Candidates with the following skills are sought:
- Organizational and project management skills
- Experience or demonstrated interest in working in the fields of communications, public affairs or marketing
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with social media tools
- Interest in learning about local government
Term of Assignment
