 Position and Duties
The City of San Jose Environmental Services Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill flexibly staffed Wastewater Operator vacancies at the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant. Wastewater Operators work in an industrial environment where they operate various types of process equipment that removes hazardous and harmful pollution from wastewater coming from households, businesses and industries. Wastewater Operators inspect, operate and maintain equipment in process areas, take samples for process control and read, interpret gauges, dials and other process instruments to make necessary process and equipment adjustments. They ensure that the final product, which is clean water, meets federal and state environmental and safety regulatory standards before the water flows back to the San Francisco Bay. Wastewater Operators staff the Plant 24/7 and are assigned to one of two 12-hour operating shifts. Applicants for this position must be available to work nights, weekend and holidays.
