The City of Yuba City is currently recruiting for a Kennel Care Technician. This position will work for the Recreation Department out of the Sutter Animal Services Facility located at 200 Garden Highway, Yuba City. The Kennel Care Technician is responsible for the routine operations of Animal Services facilities and providing for the care and feeding of impounded animals on a day to day basis. Incumbents oversee, monitor, and train other employees and volunteers in basic shelter operations and animal care and feeding.  Incumbents will be assigned to varying work schedules including weekend work.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate must possess a high degree of dependability as well as knowledge regarding the humane care of neglected and impounded animals. Candidates must also possess communication skills to provide positive customer service.

Education: Successful completion of the equivalent of a high school diploma from an accredited institution.
Experience: At least three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in the humane care and treatment of animals.
License: A Euthanasia Certificate within three (3) months from the date of hire. Possession of a valid and appropriate California state driver’s license.



Salary: The current monthly salary for Kennel Care Technician is $2,800-$3,403. * Salary has not been adjusted to reflect the current 10% furlough program.
Retirement: New employees into the CalPERS retirement system will enroll in the 2% @ 62 formula. Employees meeting CalPERS classic member status will enroll in the 2% @ 55 formula.  The City does not participate in Social Security. Deferred Compensation: A Deferred Compensation Program is available for City employees. 
Medical/Dental/Vision: The City offers an excellent benefits package with generous City contributions for employees and their dependents to health, dental and vision premiums.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The City pays for an EAP that offers employee and family members up to eight (8) visits per incident, unlimited incidents.
Life Insurance: $10,000 life insurance policy paid by the City. Employees may elect to purchase additional coverage.
Tuition Reimbursement: $1,150 per fiscal year for tuition and books (subject to approval).
Vacation: 13 days annually for new employees. Vacation accrual increases with time of service up to a maximum of 23 days.
Sick Leave: 12 days annually. Unlimited accrual with pay off provision upon termination of City employment with a minimum of 5 years of City service.
Holiday: The City offers 11 paid holidays per year.
Flexible Spending Account: Allows for pre-tax deductions for unreimbursed medical and dependent care expenses.
Computer Purchase Program: Assists employees in the purchase of computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment.
