THE POSITION


 


The Redwood City Public Library is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic individual who thrives on providing excellent customer service, meeting and exceeding goals in a team-oriented environment and growing with a forward-looking, community-centered organization. We are recruiting for one Library Technology Aide to work 18 hours per week. The successful candidate for this position will provide support for a wide range of basic maintenance, training and troubleshooting needs for library computers and related equipment.

 


The ideal candidate for this position will be able to help people of all age’s better use and understand basic computer technology, assist with basic technology maintenance and support, follow oral and written instructions, work independently and productively, and work evenings and/or weekends.


 


Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  provide assistance with configuring, installing, and maintaining library computers; perform minor technology repairs and upgrades; assist with troubleshooting hardware and software problems; help library staff and customers use computers; other duties as needed and assigned.


 


This is a non-benefited casual position.  A casual employee may not work more than 1000 hours per fiscal year.


 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


 


Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


 


Education & Experience


 


Two years of recent experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware and software in a formal setting such as a workplace or school environment is highly preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills, dedication, and strong customer service orientation are all required.


 


Knowledge of:


 



  • Public access computer set-up for a library environment

  • Standard office computer systems and applications such as Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 7, etc.

  •  Installation, maintenance and repair of computer and related equipment

  •  Security and time management software 


Ability to:


 



  •   Provide excellent customer service in a friendly cooperative manner

  •   Troubleshoot computer hardware and software

  •    Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing

  •   Read and write effectively

  •    Work well with the public and with co-workers

  •    Work evenings and weekends


 


Must be physically capable of performing the essential job functions of this classification.

SELECTION PROCESS


 


All applications will be reviewed for neatness, accuracy, completion, relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications.  The most appropriately qualified applicants will be asked to participate in the testing process which will consist of an interview with Library Department staff.  Prior to appointment, candidates will be required to pass a background check and/or a fingerprint check at no cost to the candidate.  Final appointment will be made by the Library Director.  The Immigration Act of 1986 requires proof of identity and eligibility for employment at date of hire.
