PUBLIC WORKS INTERN (2)
Two Month Assignment – Flexible Work Schedule
(20-40 hours per week)
The City of Belmont has two (2) great opportunities for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in a municipal Public Works Department. These internships will provide valuable support to either the Traffic, Street, Sewer Operations Division or Engineering Division. Some of the duties may include:
- Locating and identifying City assets.
- Recording GPS location of assets.
- Data entry.
- Post processing/data editing.
- Development of construction plans using AutoCAD.
- Field verification and data gathering for engineering design.
The interns will be working in both a field and office setting and will have the opportunity to interact with employees within the Public Works Department as well as other City departments.
Current or recent enrollment in a college or university. Coursework related to GIS, Public Works and/or Engineering is highly desirable.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Interest in or knowledge of Public Works Operations.
-Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
-Well developed organizational skills with an attention to detail.
-Computer proficient with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
-Ability to compile, analyze and interpret data.
-Ability to operate a digital camera.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-Ability to work effectively with those contacted in the course of
- Auto Cad proficiency highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ArcMap or other GIS software highly desirable.
These are unpaid internships without compensation or benefits.
