ACADEMY COMPLETE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·         Completion of a POST certified basic academy within the last 3 years.

·         Be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test indicating high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university. The high school shall be either a United States public school, accredited United States Department of Defense high school, or an accredited or approved public or nonpublic high school.

·         Must be 21 years of age at time of application.

·         Valid California Driver’s License at the time of hire.

·         U.S. Citizenship or resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.

·         Excellent physical condition and must meet P.O.S.T. medical standards.

·         ABILITY TO – Speak Spanish is highly desirable. Ability to speak Vietnamese, Filipino, or Korean, and American Sign Language capability is also desirable.

ENTRY LEVEL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINEE:

·         Be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test indicating high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university. The high school shall be either a United States public school, an accredited United States Department of Defense high school, or an accredited or approved public or nonpublic high school.

·         Must be 21 years of age at time of application.

·         No experience required.

·         U.S. Citizenship or resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.

·         Valid California Driver’s License at the time of hire.

·         Excellent physical condition and must meet P.O.S.T. medical standards.

·         ABILITY TO – Speak Spanish is highly desirable. Ability to speak Vietnamese, Filipino, or Korean, and American Sign Language capability is also desirable.

As a trainee you shall attend a P.O.S.T. certified police academy designed to provide an overview of the criminal justice system, training in various laws and procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid, physical fitness and related duties. Upon successful completion of the police academy, trainees enter the Oxnard Police Department field training program and are assigned to the Patrol Division in a probationary status.

ALL APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE ANY AND ALL CITY OF OXNARD’S TESTS.

If you have taken the Post Entry-Level Peace Officers (PELLET-B) written test within the last 30 days of our written test, you are ineligible to take the City of Oxnard’s test. You will need to submit the “official” T-score on that agency’s letterhead. A copy can be hand-delivered to the address below, emailed to suzan.sainsbury@ci.oxnard.ca.us or faxed in at (805) 385-8352. T-scores older than 30 days will not be accepted.

Tests will be administered in January, April, July, and October. The next test is tentatively scheduled for October, 26, 2013. A valid picture ID (preferably a driver’s license) is required to take the exam. A sample test can be found at www.post.ca.gov under peace officer examination. It is highly recommended that candidates review and/or download the sample test. If you are invited to participate in the physical agility, you will be required to have filled out the Personal History Statement (PHS) provided by POST and bring it with you. The PHS can also be found at www.post.ca.gov under forms for the background process.
