The Information Technology Department's (ITD) mission is to enable the service delivery of its customers through the integration of Citywide technology resources.
ITD consists of four core service areas:

The Information Technology Department strives to provide meaningful impact through the effective use of technology for its employees and community that the City organization serves.
Position and Duties
This position is part of the Information Technology Infrastructure Team and will serve as the Server Manager. The Server Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the enterprise Windows network infrastructure functions including Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure, servers virtualization environment, network shares, system backups and restore, and system security. The Information Technology Department is currently implementing many exciting technology projects such as migrating the email and office productivity tools to utilize cloud technology, implementing cloud storage, and planning infrastructure for secondary data centers including a disaster recovery initiative. The Server Manager will lead several IT technology projects to their completion.
- Supervise a team of technical engineers and technicians to manage the City enterprise
network operations which includes the Microsoft Windows Active Directory infrastructure and
services, VMware cluster, Trend Micro Officescan, Webfilter, Veeam Backups, System
backups/restore, Network and Systems Monitor, system security, etc.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians in resolving day-to-day system
operations issues and challenges. Analyze system performance issues and troubleshoot
complex issues related to network, Windows servers, enterprise storage, applications, and
- Manage operation or security incidents such as service outages, virus outbreaks, system
- Administer and monitor vendor contracts, system maintenance renewals to ensure operation
efficiency with performance measurements, timelines, and budget.
- Act as a technical liaison to other departments. Understand and manage service level
agreements relating to IT services
- Recommend system hardware and software specifications based on IT enterprise
infrastructure. Participate in strategic planning and make recommendations to ensure
productive implementation and use of information technologies for the City.
- Evaluate City’s IT infrastructure and recommend an upgrade path as necessary. Coordinate
activities and lead system upgrade, equipment replacement, etc.
- Administer, document, and establish policies and procedures for enterprise system
including hardware and software.

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field, and four years of progressively responsible professional/journey level experience, of which at least two years have been at a level comparable to a Senior Systems Applications Programmer (SrSAP), Enterprise Network Engineer (ENE), Senior Communications Technician (SrComTech), or Senior Electronics Systems Technician (SrElecSysTech) with the City of San José. SrSAP/ENE/SrComTech/SrElecSysTech level experience is usually considered to include lead technical work in the development, implementation and maintenance of communications or computer systems. Lead employees assign and monitor work; evaluate employees, provide guidance and direction to lower level employees; determine work priorities; and train staff.
Additional years of increasingly responsible directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Completion of a Master's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required two years of experience at a level comparable to a SrSAP/ENE/SrComTech/SrElecSysTech.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License AND
-Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) OR Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or equivalent
