SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD
SALARY RANGE: $8.69 - $10.56 per hour

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for temporary/seasonal position of School Crossing Guard. The work schedule will be a split shift (1.5-2 hours in the A.M. and 1.5- 2 hours in the P.M, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Locations may vary and candidates may be asked to cover different locations during the day.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Escorts children across designated intersections; observes traffic violations and keeps record of same; observes designated area for potential hazards to the children's health and welfare.
Education that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
Necessary Special Requirement
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Knowledge of: Current traffic and safety rules.
Skill at: Keeping records and reports; reading and understanding directions, traffic laws & regulations; cooperating and working well with others; working independently; being neat, orderly, friendly and understanding.
On a continuous basis: Walk and pick up cones; (if applicable) stand and wait for kids to arrive; walk into middle of the street and back, raise one hand and hold up a sign use voice to tell children to cross the street and to promote safety; verbally ask children to follow all crossing rules; use eyes to watch for traffic; use eyes to judge distances of cars; have sufficient hearing acuity to identify sounds including the arrival of children and/or vehicles; stand or sit in all types of weather; walk for thirty minutes two times per day; stand for thirty minutes two times per day.
Intermittently: Exposed to rain, cold; exposed to extremely high temperatures; hold children back to prevent them from going across the street; use eyes to see around trees and bushes.
SELECTION PROCESS: Applications will be screened by the Human Resources Department and then forwarded to the Public Works Department for final consideration. Those applicants meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview. Final appointment is contingent upon passing a City-paid pre-employment physical, a urine drug and alcohol screening test and a fingerprint check.
