Position:          Administrative Intern

 

Salary:              Negotiable Stipend

 

Job Type:         Internship

 

Location:          Administrative Office for Parks & Recreation Dept.

Hours:               20-30 hours per week/Flexible schedule

Closing Date:   Upon receipt of the first 100 applications and supplemental questionnaires or Monday, April 1, 2013, whichever occurs first.

 

THE POSITION:   The Parks and Recreation Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for an intern to work in its Administrative offices. The Department, which has about 60 full time employees, manages over 30 parks and open space areas, five community centers that provide recreation activities for all age groups, an 18-hole golf course and the City’s park and street trees. The Administrative Intern will work directly with the Department’s Senior Management Analyst on projects that support the overall Department. The duration and start date of the internship are flexible though summer interns typically start in mid-May.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 


  • BA/BS Candidate

  • Strong analytical, writing and verbal skills; effective written and oral communication

  • Experience conducting research and data analyses

  • Able to work independently with direction from supervisor

  • Interest in learning more about a career in local government


DUTIES:  The primary projects will include the following:


  • Parks Survey. Conduct customer intercept surveys with patrons in the City's parks.  Prepare a report analyzing the results of the survey work.

  • Marketing Support. Work on marketing materials for Department programs and assist with internal and external communication using social media. 

  • Park Facility Inventory. Research alternatives for capturing historical and project data on the City's parks and work to implement a new system for storing critical park information.  


In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects depending upon their time and interests.
