One-Year Limited Term, Benefited Position

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) manages a regional greenbelt system with over 62,000 acres of land and 26 open space preserves in the Silicon Valley region of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Midpen’s Public Affairs Department is seeking an outgoing, energetic public and government affairs professional who can communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, inspire members of the public, engage potential partners and strengthen the legislative program. This full-time position will work out of the administrative office in Los Altos, CA and is funded for one year from the date of hire with a possibility of extension based on funding.

This is an exciting position to lead and coordinate Midpen’s community outreach and legislative programs. The Community Outreach Specialist schedules and coordinates public education events, connects with local employers and partners, foster ongoing relationships with appointed and elected officials and other external stakeholders, develops opportunities to outreach to specific cultural and interest groups, and coordinates and directs outreach volunteers. This position will be responsible for enhancing the volunteer outreach program and developing a basic speakers’ bureau in the next year.

Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree and have three years of related work experience. Possession of a valid California Driver's license is also required.

The ideal candidate is a team player with a positive attitude, has experience planning and conducting a community outreach program; communicates clearly, both orally and in writing; and has formal public speaking experience. She or he has a strong background in building solid relationships with diverse audiences. Bilingual abilities are highly desirable.

Attendance at community events is required.
