This recruitment is to fill a vacancy that currently exists in the Parks & Recreation Department. This recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies in other departments if they become available.


DEFINITION: Performs varied clerical duties. A clerk is normally considered to be in training status. Senior Clerk is the full working level or lead worker class in the Clerk series and is expected to perform the assigned duties under general direction.


Essential Functions: Types letters, forms, lists, schedules and financial and statistical data; types letters from rough drafts, margin notes, verbal instructions or dictation from a mechanical source; inserts and retrieves material from files; proofreads reports and forms for completeness and arithmetical accuracy; segregates and routes incoming mail; stuffs envelopes and folders; provides telephone and counter reception duties for a department; adds and checks columns of figures; checks and tabulates statistical or accounting data; examines documents to determine completeness, accuracy, proper coding and recording; collects, delivers, and processes mail; receives and processes service orders; operates a variety of office equipment such as computers, typewriters, photocopiers, and adding and calculating machines.







Ideal Candidate:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Clerk in the City of West Sacramento.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Prior to assignment at the Police Department, an employee must positively pass a background investigation. The background investigation is required on all non-sworn Police Department personnel who will have access to the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) equipment; may require a Class "3" or "C" California driver's license.



Annual Salary: $33,516—$40,752

Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance: The City provides a generous cafeteria plan for purchase of medical, dental and vision. Full details can be obtained from the Human Resources Division.

Employees may elect to opt out of medical insurance, upon proof of other coverage, and are afforded $200 per month “Share the Savings.”

Life Insurance: $20,000 term life insurance plan, paid by City.

Long-Term Disability Insurance: Paid by City.

Sick Leave: 8 hours per month.

Vacation: 1 - 5 years = 10 days; 6 -10 years = 15 days; 11-20 years = 20 days; 20+ years = 25 days.

Holidays: 14.5 paid holidays per year.

Retirement: CalPERS 2% @ 60 or 2% @ 62 plan, depending upon the employee’s status with CalPERS at the time of employment.

Social Security / Medicare: The City does not participate in Social Security, but does participate in Medicare.

Educational Incentive Program: $75 per month for 60 college semester units; OR, $120 per month for 90 college semester units.

Bilingual Pay: A 5% pay premium for employees possessing and utilizing bilingual skills on duty. (Qualification determined through testing procedures.)

Representation: This position is represented by Stationary Engineers, Local 39.
