Position and Duties


 


Systems Analyst (ISA) positions. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years experience using Microsoft SQL Server to create or modify tables, stored procedures, views and functions, experience with Windows Forms using typed data sets and experience creating or modifying Crystal Reports and deploying those reports in ASP.NET and Windows Forms applications. A working knowledge of Javascript is required and a working knowledge of Oracle is highly preferred. This ISA will work with a team, on coding customization, creating reports, and documenting procedures in a team effort to maintain, upgrade, debug and document various Information System Databases that are required to track and plan maintenance operations for the City's infrastructure.




Over time, several custom applications have been developed to assist DOT staff in making decisions rooted in information that is relevant and accurate. These applications are based in different database management systems utilizing MS SqlServer and Oracle. Applications to access and manage this data have been developed in Windows Forms and ASP.NET projects using Microsoft Visual Studio C#.NET and VB.NET. Experience integrating various information systems into one centralized system (CMMS) is highly desirable.




We are looking for a candidate who can support these existing applications while gaining an understanding of and documenting the information stored and extracted. This knowledge will be critical going forward as we centralize maintenance operations through the migration of all department databases and programs to a new integrated system. This candidate will support existing mobile computing devices and assist with expansion in this area. This ISA will assist in providing support for the current databases and associated mobile computing devices by learning the skills to perform system administration and provide operational and trouble shooting expertise.






KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



1. Support existing in house desktop, database, server, and mobile applications which are comprised of several database management systems using SQL, JavaScript, Oracle, Windows Forms and ASP.NET projects using Microsoft Visual Studio. Perform bug fixes and feature enhancements to ensure these systems stay functional and reliable.



2. Maintenance of current information database systems and documentation of current applications and processes.



3.  Provides document control and document sharing for task teams working on specific initiatives.



4. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


 


Combination of training and experience equivalent to:




EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field, and




EXPERIENCE: Four years of progressively responsible professional/journey level experience, of which at least two years have been at a level comparable to an Senior Systems Applications Programmer (SrSAP), Enterprise Network Engineer (ENE), Senior Communications Technician (SrComTech), or Senior Electronics Systems Technician (SrElecSysTech) with the City of San José. SrSAP/ENE/SrComTech/SrElecSysTech level experience is usually considered to include lead technical work in the development, implementation and maintenance of communications or computer systems. Lead employees assign and monitor work; evaluate employees, provide guidance and direction to lower level employees; determine work priorities; and train staff.




ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS

Additional years of increasingly responsible directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Completion of a Master's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required two years of experience at a level comparable to a SrSAP/ENE/SrComTech/SrElecSysTech




LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid California driver's license.
