The City of Dixon Fire Department is recruiting to fill one vacancy at either level currently existing within the department. This recruitment will also be used to establish a one-year eligibility list for future vacancies.  Candidates who apply for this position will be required to submit FireTEAM and CPAT testing scores.  (Read below for details).


The City offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for qualified applicants pursuing a career in fire safety.  The position performs fire prevention activities to save lives and property; responds to hazardous material incidents; responds to all fire alarms with designated company; prepares and operates the necessary equipment at the scene of the fire such as a hose, ladders, chemicals, bars, hooks, etc.; administers first aid to injured patrons; performs other acts required of a Firefighter at the scene of an emergency; carries out all duties assigned by Superior Officers.  Work involves irregular hours during the day and evenings, and on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE:

Copies (clear and legible) of the following documents must be submitted by the final filing date  to The National Testing Network.


FIREFIGHTER APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT:


  1. A recent copy (within 6 months) of your DMV driving record (obtained at a California DMV office).
  2. An approved Firefighter I Academy Certificate.
  3. CPAT Card.

FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT:


  1. A recent copy (within 6 months) of your DMV driving record (obtained at a California DMV office).
  2. An approved Firefighter I Academy Certificate
  3. Copy of your valid Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic license meeting the requirements of the California Emergency Medical Services Authority.
  4. Copy of a current, valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate issued by the American Heart Association or the equivalent. (Pediatric advanced life support & basic trauma life support or international trauma life support)
  5. CPAT Card.

ALL CANDIDATES MUST UPLOAD TEST SCORES:


Dixon will be using The National Testing Network, FireTEAM exam and will accept transfer scores if you have already taken this exam within the last 12 months. Please use www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website to login to your candidate account and upload your scores and documents no later than the final filing date. If you have any questions about this process, please call 866-563-3882.


Those that do not upload scores to The National Testing Network exam will not continue in the selection process.

THE CITY OF DIXON WILL NOT ACCEPT COPIES, FAXES OR EMAILS OF DOCUMENTS.


FAILURE TO SUBMIT APPLICATION, UPLOAD OF SCORES OR DOCUMENTS BY FINAL CLOSING DATE WILL BE AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION.


The final filing date has been established on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 5:00 p.m., however, will automatically close upon receipt of the first 300 applications, whichever occurs first.  This recruitment may close without notice.

FIRETEAM Testing Process:
Testing services for the position of Firefighter and/or Firefighter Paramedic are provided through National Testing Network, Inc.  To schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select Fire and sign up for the Dixon Fire Department recruitment.  Several testing dates and locations will be offered, but applicant must complete the testing prior to 5:00 p.m. on April 14, 2017.  Failure to complete the FireTeam test process prior to the final filing date will result in disqualification from the recruitment process.

What to expect at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com:


  • Review all information related to the Dixon Firefighter position(s), including minimum requirements, salary and benefits.
  • Detailed testing process information for the FireTEAM test.
  • Opportunity to take online practice tests at www.fireteamtest.com
  • Schedule your own convenient test time.  Tests are offered multiple days a week, including Saturdays.
  • Take high qualifying job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment.

Upon completion of the FireTEAM test, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to Dixon Human Resources.  Candidates who attain passing scores on the FireTEAM test may be invited to continue in the next steps of the recruitment process.

National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment.  National Testing Network does not replace the Dixon Fire Department's responsibility and decision making in the testing process.


TENTATIVE RECRUITMENT SCHEDULE


Exam Process: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in the process(s) indicate below. The most qualified candidates from these processes will be placed on an employment eligibility list.

Skills Testing - Tentatively scheduled for May 4 and 5, 2017.


      * Firefighters - BLS Test          * Firefighter/Paramedics - Paramedic Test


Interview Panel - Tentatively scheduled for May 17 and 18, 2017.


Employment Processing: Those selected may be subject to a medical exam including drug screen; background investigation; DOJ fingerprint clearance; and in accordance with Federal Law, are able to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States. It is the policy of the City of Dixon to practice fair and equal employment under the law. 

Veteran's Preference Points: Veteran's Preference points will be applied. A PDF copy of the DD214 form must be filed at the time of application.

Ideal Candidate:

QUALIFICATIONS  - Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

FIREFIGHTER

Education: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade.  Related college level training is desirable.

Experience: Some work experience performing fire-fighting activities.  Completion of an eighteen-month probation period as a Dixon Volunteer Firefighter is desirable.

Licenses, Certificates and/or Other Requirements:

·      The candidate shall be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.

·      Ability to possess and maintain an EMT-ID certificate.

·      Ability to possess and maintain a CPR certificate.

·      Ability to possess California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Certificate within six (6) months of initial hire. 

·      Possession of a California Class B Drivers License is required before completion of probation; and is a condition of continued employment.

·      A satisfactory driving record is a condition of initial and continued employment.

 

FIRE FIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

Education:  Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. Related college level training is desirable.

Experience: Some work experience performing fire fighting and/or paramedic services is desirable.  Completion of an eighteen-month probation period as a Dixon Volunteer Firefighter is highly desirable.

Licenses, Certificates and/or Other Requirements:

·       Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.

·       Possession of a current, valid Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic license meeting the requirements of the California Emergency Medical Services Authority.

·       Within fifteen (15) months of employment, and as a condition for passing probation, incumbents must obtain Firefighter II Certification.

Tier One – Applicable to employees who are not defined as “New Members” in Government Code Section 7522.04(f) and were hired
before August 12, 2012 are eligible for a 3% @ 50 benefit formula
with a three year average compensation formula;


Tier Two – Applicable to employees who are not defined as “New
Members” in Government Code Section 7522.04(f) and were hired
on/after August 12, 2012 are eligible for a 3% @ 55 benefit formula
with a three year average compensation formula;


Tier Three – Applicable to employees who are defined as “New
Members” in Government Code Section 7522.04(f) and were hired
on/after January 1, 2013 are eligible for a 2.7% @ 57 benefit
