Definition:


Under general supervision or direction performs unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of parks, buildings and grounds, pathways, trails, sidewalks, foot bridges, athletic facilities; streets, signs, curbs and gutters; sewers, storm drains, drainage facilities; and other Town owned properties, facilities, and assets. The employee in this category will utilize a variety of skills, which include, but are not limited to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, maintenance and operation of light and heavy equipment, asphalt repair, tree trimming and removal, concrete construction, grading and paving of streets and trails, grounds maintenance and other duties as assigned.


 


Assigned duties in this classification are routine tasks requiring no experience or limited experience. Employees at this level perform a limited range of duties under immediate supervision, in accordance with established guidelines and procedures. Employees at this level receive immediate supervision from a manager designated by the City Manager and functional supervision from higher level Maintenance Workers.

Ability To:

  • Ability to perform essential physical functions with or without accommodation. These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
    Intermittently sit while driving, operating equipment, or completing forms/work papers; stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and reach while inspecting or repairing, digging or clearing, and using various tools and equipment; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; distinguish colors used in marking utility facilities, and lift or carry weight of 100 pounds or less.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools and operate light motorized equipment.
  • Read, write and understand English and perform basic arithmetic computations.
  • Perform rotating work assignments.
  • Work in inclement weather.
  • Work extended or irregular hours.
  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Perform manual labor for extended periods.
  • Preferred: Basic knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, tools, equipment, and practices involved in construction, maintenance, and repair of public facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

A High School Diploma and a valid Class C Driver’s license are required.
