 Salary: $11.20 - $12.35 per hour
Under general supervision this position is responsible for assisting in the operations and safety of a community swimming pool.
Lifeguards must have:
  • Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid, CPR/AED for lifeguard or equivalent.
  • Tittle 22 First Aid Certification (within the first 6 months of employment)
  • Strong communication and organizational shills.
  • Ability to work well with other under pressure (emergency situations)
  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Possession of a valid class "C" Driver's License. (Required for Ages 18+ only)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (included but are not limited to the following)                           While on duty, Lifeguards are responsible for the following:

  • Acting as a lifeguard during pool hours and at all events held at the pool and administer first aid
  • Enforcing all pool rules
  • Preventing injuries and minimizing hazardous situations
  • Providing patron surveillance and keeping proper written records
  • Handling all injuries, accidents and emergency situations as they arise(contact Senior Lifeguard for any assistance)
  • Arriving to work on time and in proper uniform
  • instruct various ages in swimming, water safety, and other aquatic programming
  • Completing assigned cleaning and light pool maintenance duties
  • Attending and participating in in-service training as scheduled
  • Passing the CPR/AED for Lifeguards skills and written test
  • Providing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and minor first aid on infants, children and adults in cases of emergency; 
  • Providing outstanding service for all customers, including handling customer complaints and anticipating customer needs
  • Completing other duties as assigned


  • Aquatic programming for various age groups
  • Water safety and lifesaving techniques
  • Safe work practices
  • Records keeping and statistical computations

 Ability to:

  • Work effectively and courteously with the public
  • Remain calm and maintain control in emergency situations
  • Participate and assist in a variety of aquatic activities, including swim lessons and special events
  • Perform light pool maintenance and follow written and oral instructions

Skill in:

  • Rescuing submerged victims and remove from water; perform first aid and CPR


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, swim, sit, talk and heard
  • The employee is required to use hands and fingers, handle, feel or operate object, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • The employee must occasionally lift, pull, pull and/or move heavy items
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and far vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in outside weather conditions
  • Employees will be exposed to outside temperatures ranging from 80-110 degrees
  • Duties are typically performed in direct sunlight. The employee is exposed to hot, wet, and humid conditions
  • The employee is exposed to cleaning chemical that must be handled with extreme caution
