The City of Alhambra, located eight miles east of downtown Los Angeles, is often referred to as the “Gateway to the San Gabriel Valley”. Operating under the City Manager, the City of Alhambra provides the city a wide range of services such as fire protection, code enforcement, emergency and disaster preparedness, building safety regulation and inspection, land use planning and zoning, housing and community development, maintenance, improvement and lighting of streets, library services, utilities, traffic safety and a full range of recreational and cultural programs.
Human Resources Department
The Department of Human Resources is tasked with working in collaboration and cooperation with all city departments to meet the human resource needs of employees and the broad needs of each individual department. Currently serving 400 full time and 200 part time employees, the City of Alhambra’s Human Resources Department is opening its doors to summer internship.
If you are a college student or a recent graduate, and are interested in gaining a Human Resources experience in the public sector, and you have a stellar attitude and can provide excellent customer service - we welcome you in our HR Team! We are looking for an HR Intern who will provide assistance in the areas of recruitment, benefits administration, training, performance evaluation and other personnel administrative functions. Candidates must maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times and be able to service the public.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, supporting the HR Team in its daily operations by providing reception coverage, responding to walk-ins, coordinating the schedules of new hires, maintaining log sheets, filing confidential personnel documents, upkeep of invoices, following through routed documents, scheduling of interviews and assisting in the recruitment events. You may also be tasked to work on special projects as assigned.
This will be a 4-6 month assignment, with flexible hours of 25-40 hours per workweek.
Pursuing or newly acquired degree in Human Resources is a must. Some experience providing administrative support in a Human Resources office environment is highly desirable. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Proactive approach to responsibilities and a positive attitude.
