Under the general guidance and direction of the Facility Coordinator and/or the Facility Attendant II, the Facility Attendant I performs maintenance and customer service tasks.  Required to provide a high level of customer service; provide set-up for events, monitor events, close and secure facilities after events; ensure facility custodial and maintenance tasks are performed during and after events; and other assigned duties. 


ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:  May include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the District liaison for renters during scheduled events and during non-business hours.
  • Respond to facility user needs, complaints, inquiries, and emergencies.
  • Provide quality customer service; have positive communication and interaction with renters, facility patrons, co-workers, and the public, and maintain a professional demeanor. 
  • Open and close facilities for activities/events and weekend rentals; prepare facilities for event use including set-up and take down of chairs, tables, and equipment; ensure premises are vacated, alarms activated, and all doors secured/locked. 
  • Remain at facilities during activities/events to monitor activities, address the needs of the renters/patrons, ensure room capacity adherence/exercise crowd control, and ensure compliance with the rental contract, policies and procedures, and park rules. 
  • Perform custodial and maintenance duties at facilities, including restrooms, but not limited to litter removal from grounds surrounding buildings; and clean up after accidents.
  • Follow procedures for oral and written communication of facility status including renter non-compliance of rental contract, policies and procedures, park rules, customer service issues, maintenance conditions, security concerns, hazardous conditions, and damage reports.
  • Survey District parks and facilities for problems with security (i.e. non-functioning light bulbs, vandalism, etc.) and hazardous conditions, as well as patrol inside and outside of rented facilities to monitor security of restricted areas; and discourage loitering at facilities not rented.
  • Secure and maintain inventory.
  • Assist at other facilities when needed.
  • Advise and assist with implementation and improvements of methods and procedures. 
  • Drive a District vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct CARD business.


Marginal Functions:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



  • Ability to respond appropriately to renters and park patrons within the context of District procedures while maintaining a high customer service ethic.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work, which includes working with the public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions as required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to District policies and procedures and park rules and regulations.


  • Ability to identify and analyze potential problems, situations, and needs; and carry out solutions appropriately and quickly. 
  • Ability to work irregular hours as required, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends with varying schedules.
  • Ability to be in compliance with and meet criminal history check requirements.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • May be required to possess a valid California Driver License and be insurable on the District’s vehicle liability policy.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of customer service.
  • Knowledge of materials used in custodial and maintenance duties and knowledge and/or ability to learn how to operate equipment involved in custodial and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in custodial and maintenance work. 
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.



Mobility:  Frequent performance of moderate manual labor; frequent sitting, walking, standing for long periods of time; occasional bending, twisting, kneeling or squatting.  Lifting:  Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.  Vision:  Constant use of overall vision.  Dexterity:  Frequent grasping, holding, and reaching.  Hearing/Talking:  Frequent hearing and talking in person; occasionally by phone.  Emotional/Psychological:  Frequent public and co-worker contact; occasional working alone.  Environmental:  Frequent exposure to loud noises and large groups of people.



Work may be performed indoors or outdoors subject to year round environmental conditions including heat, cold, dampness, humidity, and dryness.  Subject to typical street or field noise.  Requires some holiday, evening, and weekend work.  Travel is rare.
