The City of Albany is seeking motivated and energetic candidates to apply for Program Leader II/III positions in our Recreation Department. The Program Leader II/III position plays a key role in the programs provided to youth and teens in our community.  Reporting directly to the Recreation Coordinator or the Recreation Supervisor, the Program Leader II/III is a part-time position working approximately 20-25 hours per week.  Typical working hours are Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 6:30pm.  The City will be filling the position at the Program Leader II or III level, depending on experience, education and current vacancies. 

Typical Job Duties

Program Leader II

  • Facilitate and supervise indoor/outdoor game activities, mathematics tutoring, and homework for youth participants

  • Administer snack to youth participants

  • Council and administer appropriate redirection instruction to participants using established standards

  • Provide after school supervision of program participants
  • Pick-up and drop off students 
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Maintain organized records, schedules, and contact lists

  • Perform work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative

  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the general public and those contacted in the course of work

  • May assist with City Special Events

  • May assist with other Department programs, events or tasks

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level

Program Leader III

  • Perform all responsibilities of a Program Leader II
  • Provide lead direction to after school care programs for youth and/or teens
  • Provide lead direction to Program Leader II staff, under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor
  • Provide feedback to Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor regarding recommendations for new or enhanced services and programs
  • May attend Department or City Staff Meetings
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level

  • Solves problems and resolves conflicts as they arise

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of 12th grade

  • Must be able to work a flexible weekday schedule, with occasional weekend assignments

  • Must be able to provide proof of a negative TB test dated within the past two (2) years 

  • Department of Justice (DOJ) Livescan background check

Program Leader II must also:

  • Possess one (1) year of experience working in recreation, child care, or a similar field

Program Leader III must also:

  • Possess two (2) years of experience working in recreation, child care, or a similar field
