The City of American Canyon welcomes applications from energetic, responsible individuals who will serve as Lifeguards or Lifeguard/WSI. Lifeguard/Lifeguard/WSI observe the activity of swimmers in and around the American Canyon Aquatics Pool and must have the ability to make appropriate decisions and act quickly, provide lifesaving services as needed. Lifeguards also teach swim lessons and assist with other pool-related activities. The position can include working shifts that are scheduled during early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. This is a position that is considered temporary/part-time and employees are limited to no more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year.
Lifeguard - $14.70 - $17.87/hr
Lifeguard/WSI - $15.07 - $18.31/hr
• CPR for Professional Rescuer (or equivalent)
• First Aid
• First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22)
• Lifeguarding (through the American Red Cross, Ellis and Associates or YMCA)
• Optional: Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or similar
FOR WSI Lifeguard – All of the above –AND- a current Water Safety Instructor Certification
Both levels may require a valid Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This position accrues sick leave in the amount of 24 hours per year. No other benefits are provided.
Based on a review of qualifications, those applicants determined to be the most qualified will be invited to an interview with the Department. Prior to providing a Conditional Offer of employment the City will conduct a reference check including but not limited to the verification of employment history and education.
After a Conditional Offer of employment is made applicants may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen. The Conditional Offer will also be contingent upon successful completion of Livescan Fingerprinting. The resulting report of showing the conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of the conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) history will disqualify you as a candidate based on the specific requirements of the position to which you are applying.
