The City of Belmont is currently recruiting for Lateral Dispatcher candidates to fill current and future openings.

$81,796-$99,423 annually (depending on experience)

As a Dispatcher with the City of Belmont you will be a part of a team dedicated to providing community oriented law enforcement, crime prevention, public assistance and education.

The Position

Dispatchers play a vital role in the department by answering both emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching units and providing information and assistance to the community. 

Dispatchers work twelve (12) hours shifts - with four (4) days off every other week.

 

Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate is an individual who:

  • Meets or exceeds the POST Public Safety Dispatcher Selection Requirements
     
  • Can work effectively in emergency situations.
     
  • Is detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks  at once.
     
  • Possesses the ability to effectively communicate with callers who may be in distress.
     
  • Possesses the skills necessary to effectively operate the 911 system, radio transmitting system and computer aided dispatch system.
     
  • Shares the Department's desire to provide excellent customer service and continue it's "Tradition of Service".

 

LATERAL APPLICANTS

The requirements for lateral applicants are as follows:

  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a public safety dispatcher performing the full range of dispatching duties and have successfully completed the probationary period. Must be currently working as a dispatcher or have worked within 12 months immediately preceding the date of the application filed with the City of Belmont.

     

  • Education - Equivalent to graduation from high school.

     

  • A California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course Completion Certificate.


Desirable but not required

  • A California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate.

Benefits

The following is a general overview of the benefits provided to City of Belmont full-time benefit eligible employees. For specific benefit information, please refer to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City and the Belmont Police Officers Association .

RETIREMENT

The City contracts with the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits.  2%@ 55 for Classic CalPERS members and 2%@62 for PEPRA CalPERS members.

HEALTH

Medical
The City provides health insurance to eligible employees and dependents via the California Public Employees’ Retirement System(CalPERS) Health Benefit Program. The CalPERS program provides employees with several Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) options.

The City provides each eligible employee who participates in a City sponsored CalPERS Health Plan with an employer contribution towards the monthly health insurance premium.

Dental
The City provides dental insurance for employees and their eligible dependents.

Vision
The City provides vision insurance for eligible employees and their dependents via a vision benefit for eligible employees and their dependents via the City’s reimbursement program (varies by MOU).

Flexible Benefits Plan
The City offers an Internal Revenue Code Section 125 Plan, which allows employees to contribute pre-tax income to the following accounts:

  • Health Care Reimbursement Account (up to $2,500 annually)
  • Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (up to $5,000 annually)


OTHER BENEFITS

Life Insurance
The City provides basic group term life insurance, the specific benefit amount varies by labor group. Employees have the option of electing voluntary additional and dependent life at their expense.

Long-Term Disability Benefits
The City reclassifies the cost of the long term disability insurance to the employee’s salary. The employee then pays the actual monthly cost of the premium on an after-tax basis.

Deferred Compensation
The City contributes $100.00 per month for each employee.  In addition, employees have the option of making additional contributions via payroll deduction.

Retirement Health Savings (RHS) Account
The City contributes a specified amount to a Retirement Health Savings Account based upon an employee's hire date and years of service with the City. For example, an employee working for the City for 1 to 5 years would be eligible for a monthly contribution of $150.00. An employee working for the City for 11 to 15 years would be eligible for a monthly contribution of $250.00. Employees are vested in the Retiree Health Savings Account after 10 years of continuous service with the City.

PAID TIME OFF

Vacation
Vacation is accrued on a monthly basis based on years of service.

Holidays
The City observes twelve (12) holidays per year. In addition employees are granted two (2) floating holidays to be taken after 1 year of service.

Paid Sick Leave
Sick leave is earned at the rate of eight (8) hours per calendar month of service.
