The City of Campbell's City Manager's Office is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the opening for Communication and Social Media Intern!
The City of Campbell is currently seeking an Intern for the City Manager's Office to perform a variety of routine to program-oriented tasks. Some of the specific projects that the intern may work on include representing the City of Campbell at community events, assisting with various communication efforts such as social media content creation, scheduling and engagement, photography, and updating the City's website. The Intern will have networking opportunities both within the City and with other agencies, and can expect to learn valuable professional skills such as project management, organization, communication methods, and community organizing, among others.
The position offers the Intern a chance to interact with high-level staff and make department/public presentations. The Intern will be assigned a mentor and may attend monthly special events/functions with guest speakers. This internship will provide an opportunity to become familiar with the City and gain an overall view of municipal government by working with multiple City departments and outside agencies.
Participants in the 2023 City of Campbell Summer Internship Program will be expected to commit to the entire 12-week program.
Each intern will work a maximum of 20 hours a week earning $15.50-$23.00 per hour. Typical work hours will be Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with flexibility to be further discussed during the placement portion of the hiring process.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Education: Applicants must be current college students and have achieved senior status in a four-year degree program (during the upcoming Fall 2023 academic year) or be enrolled in a graduate program.
- Academic course work should be related to city government such as: public administration, business, or related field
- Previous office support experience
- Customer service experience• Basic principles and fundamentals related to local government operating functions such as City
- Manager’s Office, Administrative Services, Community Development, Public Works, Police Services, or Parks and Community Services Department.
- Modern office practices, methods, procedures, and computer equipment
- Basic research and analysis methods
- Basic business data processing principles and the use of personal computers and word processing software.
Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
- Knowledge of social media management tools and analytics platforms
- Ability to write compelling content for social media posts, blogs, and newsletters
- Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Understanding of content marketing and audience targeting
- Experience with digital marketing strategies and campaigns
- Ability to research and analyze data to develop insights and recommendations for social media and communication strategies
- Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) and website analytics platforms
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Enthusiasm for learning and keeping up with the latest social media and communication trends and technologies
- Passion for public service and community engagement
- Ability to take direction and receive feedback constructively
