The City’s Community Planning and Building Department has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Planner to join the team. As a City Associate Planner, you will make a difference by helping preserve and enhance the City’s unique character and quality of life.
The Associate Planner performs professional planning work and provides direction and coordination of planning studies in the areas of both current and long-range planning; develops and makes presentations to the City Council, Planning Commission, Historic Resources Board, and community groups; reviews commercial and residential development proposals, plans, and applications; confers with and advises architects, designers, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and the general public regarding City development policies and standards; interprets and apply pertinent Federal and State laws, codes, and regulations, including those governing general plans, specific plans, environmental quality, zoning, and land use.
The ideal candidate will bring collaborative, team-centered qualities to the Department; be self-motivated, tactful, detail-oriented with strong customer service skills; able to communicate highly technical topics in a clear and concise manner, as well as be self-assured with the ability to exercise a high degree of common sense and sound judgment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three (3) years of responsible professional urban planning experience, and a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, environmental planning, or public administration. AICP certification is highly desirable.
