GET PAID TO PLAY!  Chico Area Recreation & Park District is accepting applications for youth volleyball coaches and officials for our 5th -12th grade leagues.

WHAT: CARD is currently looking for volleyball coaches and officials. Coaches are responsible for setting up their own progressive practice plans while following the guidelines set forth by CARD. In addition, coaches are expected to provide a fun, supportive, positive, and safe recreational sports experience. Officials are required to know CARD’s Volleyball rules and enforce them safety and fairly during games, while making sure all players/coaches/spectators are gaining a “love of the game” in a positive environment.

WHY: CARD needs people who can coach in a recreational setting and spread a “love of the game”.  Coaches must be able to coach and communicate with children at age appropriate levels and know how to break down the fundamentals of sports. Coaches must be able to set-up parent meetings, plan, set-up, and run progressive practices, and have a professional sideline game demeanor. Officials need to communicate with children, players, coaches and parents during the course of the game and be prepared to enforce and explain rules.

TIME COMMITMENT: The spring season will run 3/26-5/19.

Coaches: Each team that is coached takes only 3 hours a week. Practices are typically from 3:30 – 5:00 pm and/or 5:00 – 6:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (one practice a week per team). Games are on Fridays for the 5th-8th grad league between 4:00-9:00pm and Saturdays for the 9th-12th grade league.

Officials: Youth games are on Fridays between 4-8pm and Saturdays in the mid-morning/afternoon.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be able to provide a fun and positive recreational sports experience encompassing a “Love of the Game” philosophy. Having basic knowledge of the sports is important, but the ability to coach children in an age appropriate manner that enables program participants to learn and improve skills, while fostering positive self-esteem, and promoting sportsmanship is a requirement.  Having volleyball coaching, officiating and/or playing experience is recommended.
