The City of Cupertino Recreation and Community Services Department has an opening in the Recreation and Education division. This is a year-round position and does not include benefits.
Position: Staff Assistant (Part-Time Temporary, Non-Benefited Position, maximum 995 hours per fiscal year)
Hours per Week: 20-35 (approximate, not to exceed 39 in a week)
Salary Range: $17.00 to $19.00 per hour

Definition: Under supervision, the Staff Assistant will promote and organize recreational activities for summer camps, youth programs, and will assist with the implementation of holiday events.
Job Description: Typical activities include, but are not limited to: preparing staff schedules, interacting with customers and program instructors, preparing program documents, supporting training sessions, assisting with implementation of special events, organizing program activities, creating flyers and other marketing material, ordering and gathering supplies and providing general administrative assistance to the Recreation Coordinators and Recreation Supervisor. The Staff Assistant may supervise Recreation Leaders and Volunteers and ensure that the assigned program meets the needs and interests of the participants while also maintaining good relations with all staff, parents, neighbors, and other groups.
- Must be 18+ years old, have a high school diploma/GED, and 1,000 HOURS of relevant work experience, such as recreational camp experience, daycare experience, and/or recreational administrative skills.
- Knowledge of safety precautions, ability to supervise staff and maintain discipline with program participants, the ability to prepare clear and accurate documents, and possessing a valid California Driver's License is required
- Must be able to manage time effectively, show initiative, work independently, and demonstrate knowledge of recreation and leisure activities for youth/teens.
- Ability to navigate the Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be able to provide own transportation to and from work
- College-level courses in recreation and/or early education are desirable
