Senior Recreation Leader (Cupertino Teen Center)

The City of Cupertino Recreation and Community Services Department is currently recruiting for a part-time Senior Recreation Leader in the following year-round program: Cupertino Teen Center. This position is part-time, temporary, and non-benefited, with a maximum of 995 hours per fiscal year. 

Position: Senior Recreation Leader (part-time temporary, non-benefited position, maximum 995 hours per fiscal year)

Hours per Week: 10-20 (approximate)

Salary Range: $15.50 to $17.50 per hour

The Position
Under supervision, the Senior Recreation Leader plans, organizes, and supervises recreational activities for the Cupertino Teen Center and does related work as required.

Senior Recreation Leaders are responsible for the overall promotion, organization, and leadership of recreation programs at the Teen Center. The ideal Sr. Recreation Leader is expected to form positive relationships with teens by engaging in different activities at the Teen Center; provide supervision of program participants; lead different programs and events at the Teen Center; maintain a positive and safe work environment; support fellow leaders and staff; participate in maintenance of facilities and equipment; attend staff meetings and respect departmental policies and procedures.

Typical activities include, but are not limited to: arts, crafts, sports, games, field trips, contests, and special events. The Senior Recreation Leader may supervise volunteers and ensure that the assigned programs meet the needs and interests of the participants while maintaining good relations with staff, parents, neighbors, and other concerned groups.

Qualifications
College-level courses in recreation or youth development are strongly desired. The Senior Recreation Leader must possess the ability to engage youth in activities, have experience working with youth/teens, have knowledge of safety precautions, be able to work with fellow leaders, and prepare accurate reports and marketing material. The Senior Recreation Leader must be able to manage time effectively, show work initiative, and work independently.

  • Be able to work weekday afternoons and weekends
  • Must have a high school diploma/ GED
  • 500 hours of work experience. Examples of work experience include: recreational camp, youth/teens, daycare setting, after-school programs
  • A valid California Driver's License
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified (Certification and re-certification courses will be offered to new employees)
  • Must be able to provide transportation to and from work

*CPR/AED and FIRST AID Certification
If you are offered a position with the Recreation and Community Services Department, CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required.
