Description

THE POSITION: The Dixon Police Department is recruiting to fill full-time Police Officer positions at either the Academy Graduate Level or Lateral Level, as well as establish an employment eligibility list for future possible use. The City offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for qualified applicants pursuing a law enforcement career. Dixon Police Officers are responsible for a wide variety of generalist police services. Opportunities for specialization and advancement are also available. The Dixon Police Department operates on a 12-hour shift schedule.

BASIC TRAINING ACADEMY STUDENTS MUST HAVE COPY OF POST CERTIFICATES IN HAND PRIOR TO START OF BACKGROUND PROCESS.

EXAM PROCESS:  Apply immediately, Applications will be accepted until a sufficient number are received for the current round of testing.  Applications indicating related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in an Interview process (pass/fail) and will be conducted on a continuous basis and will be scheduled when a sufficient number of applications are received. 

EMPLOYMENT PROCESSING: Candidates selected for hire must successfully complete and pass: a polygraph, an extensive personal background investigation, credit history, psychological testing, and a pre-employment medical examination. All appointees are required to complete a field training program and successfully complete an 18-month probationary period, and in accordance with Federal law, are to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS will be applied. A copy of the DD214 form must be filed at the time of application.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. College or university education is desirable. 
Experience:  To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the experience criteria below:

Academy Student applicants must meet the following requirements:

Candidates in this category must be currently enrolled in an Academy.

  • Will possess a current Certificate of Completion from a Basic Training Academy certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)  (Attach Proof of Current Enrollment in good standing and graduation date)
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record. (Attach DMV Printout obtained from an official California DMV Office - www.DMV.ca.gov)
  • Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
  • Spanish speaking ability is desirable, but not required.
  • Other related law enforcement training and experience is desirable, but not required.

 

Academy Graduate applicants must meet the following requirements:

Candidates in this category must have already completed an Academy within the last 3 years.

  • Possess a current Certificate of Completion from a Basic Training Academy certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)  (Attach Certificate)
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record. (Attach DMV Printout obtained from an official California DMV Office - www.DMV.ca.gov)
  • Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
  • Spanish speaking ability is desirable, but not required.
  • Other related law enforcement training and experience is desirable, but not required.

Lateral Police Officer applicants must meet the following requirements:

Candidates in this category must have already completed a probationary period as a Peace Officer.

  • Meet P.O.S.T. standards for lateral entry.
  • Possess a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate or higher (Intermediate or Advanced). (Attach Certificate(s))
  • Meet all minimum qualifications for Police Officer.
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record. (Attach DMV Printout obtained from an official California DMV Office - www.DMV.ca.gov)
  • Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
  • Spanish speaking ability is desirable, but not required.
  • Other related law enforcement training and experience is desirable, but not required.
