Description

The City of Dixon is seeking one reliable on-call driver to provide shuttle van transportation for local citizens and to establish an eligibility list for possible future use.  

Transit Driver I will drive a passenger van or paratransit vehicle on a demand responsive curb-to-curb and on a deviated fixed route transit system; will assist patrons on and off the vehicle, especially the elderly, disabled, and school age children. Will work closely with other Drivers and Transit Supervisor to ensure coordinated efforts.  Must have the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to changing situations; ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours required; must have good verbal, listening and written communication skills.

Working hours will vary.  Position is on-call to fill in when permanent staff are not available or during a spike in workload. This position will work approximately 1-4 hours per week.

Exam Process:  A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in a written exam (pass/fail) and an oral interview process (weighted 100%). 

Employment Processing: Those selected may be subject to a medical exam including drug screen; background investigation; DOJ fingerprint clearance; and in accordance with Federal Law, are able to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States. Start Date: Upon satisfactory completion of background and medical evaluation.

Ideal Candidate

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is generally performed in a driving environment with exposure to a variety of weather, odor and fume conditions.  Some duties are performed within an office environment.  May be subject to occasional evenings and weekend hours.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES: Applications are invited from qualified persons who possess the knowledge and abilities to perform the job. A typical way to obtain such knowledge and ability would be:

TRANSIT DRIVER I

Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Experience: Customer Service related experience is highly desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

-Must possess a valid Class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.

-Must submit to random drug/alcohol testing.

-Spanish speaking ability is highly desirable.

-Ability to work in stressful environment, multi-task, and willing to make a long term commitment to the job.
