Description

Seeking an individual to fill a full-time position of Engineering Technician I/II in the City Engineer/Public Works Department. Responsible for performing paraprofessional and technical field and office civil engineering including survey, design, drafting, construction inspection, plan checking, data gathering, and information dissemination. 

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Exam Process: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training, and experience will be invited to participate in an oral board interview process tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2019. The most qualified candidates from this process will be placed on an employment eligibility list. Note: the examination process may be changed as deemed necessary.  

Employment Processing: Those selected are subject to a 12-month probation period, and may be subject to pre-employment drug testing and fingerprinting. In accordance with Federal law, an employee must provide proof of identity and legal right to work in the United States.

Ideal Candidate

Candidates should be specific about field of study or major coursework in the supplemental questionnaire.

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  Typical ways to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Engineering Technician I

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade preferably supplemented by college level courses in civil engineering or related field.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible paraprofessional engineering experience comparable to that of an Engineering Aide with the City of Dixon. 

Engineering Technician II

Education:  Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level courses in civil engineering or closely related field.

Experience:  Two years of increasingly complex paraprofessional engineering experience at a level comparable to that of an Engineering Technician I with the City of Dixon.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE

A valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continuous employment.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform tasks requiring: sitting, standing, walking; occasional exposure to chemicals, skin irritants, fumes and solvents; generally inside work with occasional outside work with exposure to weather, odors, dust and pollen; the use of sense of smell; acute hearing to distinguish audible alarms; finger and hand coordination; use of computers; and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for job assignments; must comply with respiratory protection program and Cal OSHA standards.
