Description
The Dixon Fire Department is looking to fill a full-time vacancy for a Fire Engineer and to establish an eligibility list for any future vacancies. This position performs advanced firefighting and rescue activities; operates and maintains the entire range of Fire Department vehicles, apparatus, equipment & facilities. Performs related work and other duties as required.
To be considered eligible for this hiring and eligibility list, you must meet the following criteria listed under Ideal Candidate.
**NEW** Vacation Accrual/Advancement: Newly hired Fire Engineers with 5 years or more of full-time firefighter experience will receive a one-time advancement of 48 hours of vacation leave in their accrual bank following the first full pay period after date of hire.
The City will recognize firefighter past work full-time experience from California cities, fire districts, or other agencies recognized in the state of California in determining a higher vacation accrual rate tier upon hire.

-City of Dixon Fire Department Physical Agility Exam: only if you do not possess a current, valid Cal-JAC CPAT Card issued within the last 12 months from date of application.
Following the exam, candidates who "pass" both the agility and the written exam will be invited back for:

The most qualified candidates from the assessment process will be placed on an employment eligibility list. The Fire Chief will make a final selection from candidates on the certified employment list.
EMPLOYMENT PROCESSING: Selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a Personal History Statement (PHS) review, personal background investigation, pre-employment medical, and drug test, an 18-month probationary period, and in accordance with Federal law, are to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States.
Failure of any component during the exam/employment process eliminates the candidate.

Ideal Candidate
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Proficient knowledge in the operation and maintenance of firefighting apparatus and their equipment; be familiar with fireground hydraulics and principles of fire streams and modern fire prevention techniques.
Ability to understand and act in accordance with department policies and rules; to demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude as required in the operation and maintenance of firefighting and rescue equipment; to drive fire and rescue vehicles with care and safety in accordance with traffic laws and ordinances; to analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action.
Ability to think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies; administer EMS care within their scope of practice; to direct the activities of firefighting personnel; to work effectively without immediate supervision; to assist with fire prevention and inspection activities, and to assist with on-going training programs; to effectively plan, schedule and carry out the equipment maintenance program.

EDUCATION
Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. Related college level training is desirable.
EXPERIENCE
Two years full-time paid experience in firefighting.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a Firefighter Class C Endorsement (or higher), and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
A valid California EMT-B (minimum). An engineer may serve as a paramedic and in order to do so must meet the requirements of the Dixon Fire Department and the Solano County EMS.
A valid CPR certificate.
Completion of ICS 100 & 200.
Completion of NIMS 700 & 800.
Completion of California Fire Training & Education System, Firefighter 1 & 2.
Completion of California Fire Training & Education System, Driver/Operator 1A & 1B OR the CalFire approved Company Officer Academy.

CalPERS TIER DEFINITIONS - MOU INTERPRETATION OF CALPERS TIERS
CalPERS Annuitants will be limited to only 960 hours in a fiscal year and this position is full-time.

Future Salary COLAs:
July 2025 - 3%
July 2026 - 3%
Retirement:
CalPERS Retirement System (3 % @ 55 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2.7% @ 57 formula for new CalPERS members). The City does not participate in social security.
Medical:
CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Benefit Allowance: $2,025 per month.
Bilingual Pay: $100 per month upon certification.
Paramedic Incentive: 10% of base salary for those who have a valid Paramedic License.
Hazmat Pay: $166.00 per pay period (Up to 3 qualified individuals)
Education Incentive:
- Fire Technology or Fire Science Certificate - $60/month
- AA/AS degree in Fire Science - $120/month
- BA/BS degree - $180/month
- "Fire Officer" certificate - $120/month
- "Chief Fire Officer, Fire Mechanic, Fire Instructor, Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, or Apparatus Driver/Operator" certificate - $120/month (If more than one certificate is achieved under this section, employee shall only receive the max of $120/month)
Max educational incentive shall be $420/month.
Physical Fitness Incentive: $250.00 per month upon certification.
