Under direct or general supervision, oversees, recreation activities in connection with a specific recreation services program or functional area in support of community, recreational, or park facilities; and performs related duties, as assigned.


Recreation Leader II Hourly: $16.30 - $19.82

950 hours per year / less than 20 hours per week

Ideal Candidate

Will be required to report to the Community Programs Manager in the Community Services Department.  Will organize and promote activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, dramatics, social recreation, camping, and hobbies.  Will be required to enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.  Individual must have experience providing exceptional customer service to the public.  Will also need to take into account the needs and interests of individual members and performs other related work as assigned.


Under general direction will perform a wide range of field and office duties to support and/or accomplish the goals and objectives of the Administrative Services Department.  This position will conduct recreation activities with groups from the public and private sector to support recreation facility programs as well as the community at large in the City of East Palo Alto.

Special Instructions




High school diploma or GED, supplemented by college level courses in recreation, physical education, sociology, or culturally related programs; OR work experience that demonstrates the ability to lead recreation sports, fitness or diverse cultural programs.  



Two years of progressively responsible experience leading a variety of athletic and recreational activities, of which at least 6-months was at the Recreation Leader 1 level or the equivalent.


Licenses and/or Certifications:

Valid California Class C Driver’s License or higher and a good driving record at the time of appointment. 

Current CPR Certificate or the ability to obtain them within 3-months of appointment.
