ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT AND THE POSITION: The Community Services Department is comprised of three divisions: Community Services Administration, Youth and Adult Services, and the Child Development Center. We, as a department, take pride in the quality and variety of services we provide to the community and seek individuals who can contribute to this well-deserved reputation. The After School Program Leader will be a member of a dynamic team in the Youth and Adult Services Division charged with delivering creative, innovative, and enriching after school programs for youth in the Emeryville community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Organizing and leading recreational activities including arts and crafts, sports, and games; supervising field trips, which may include bus travel to local attractions, taking attendance and assisting with record-keeping; issuing, maintaining and storing equipment and supplies; interacting with children, parents, care-givers, volunteers and City staff; ensuring the safety and well-being of program participants.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be at least 16 years of age. There are no educational requirements for this position; however experience in a structured or supervised recreational program and/or college level training in Recreation, Physical Education, Education or a related field is desirable. Salary and program assignment will be based on relevant experience in the field or college coursework.
Candidates must also have eye sight sufficient to read data, memos, spreadsheets, vouchers, computer screens; manual dexterity to operate a personal computer, typewriter, copy machine; ability to sit for extended periods; stand, walk, bend, reach above and below shoulders and lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Stamina to interact with a variety of school age children.
