PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. Essential Duties

• Program Oversite
  • Coordinate with teachers and staff to ensure lesson plans, schedules, and classroom activities align with educational standards and goals.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as needed to meet the needs of children and families.
  • Manage supply lists and shop for required materials.

• Parent Communication 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a responsive and professional manner.
  • Facilitate open communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and staff to promote a positive and supportive learning environment.

  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and materials to ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library is seeking energetic individuals to provide a wide variety of library support work. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Assisting at the Accounts Desk; checking out and checking in of library materials; registering patrons for library cards; financial transactions at the Accounts Desk; promoting library services and providing consistent, excellent customer service. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Substitute Librarians:

• Masters in library science issued by a college or university accredited by the American Library Association is preferred.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with a diverse range of patrons.
• Bilingual in Spanish desired.

Substitute Library Assistants:

• Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures, including the operation of standard office equipment; alphabetical, numerical, and topical filing systems; material organization and structure of libraries; including categories of materials and general arrangement; library technical services terminology and equipment including on-line databases.
• Experience working in public libraries preferred.
