Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator II – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification, community CPR/First Aid classes and JR Lifeguard program.  This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator I- Aquatics programs to support division goals and activities).

The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7-day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator II schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Recruit, hire, manage, train, schedule, audit, discipline and evaluate staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers.
• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.
• Schedule and provide regular class and certification offerings necessary to staff for the proper operation of a public pool facility.
• Manage and develop the swim lesson program to balance and meet the needs of the community and the goals of the Department.
• Plan, develop and implement programs and events.
• Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.
• Coordinate with local police and fire agencies for emergency response protocols.
• Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.
• Work with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents, and community members in developing recreational programs and activities.
• Maintain all personal certifications and be available to lifeguard, teach swim lessons, and otherwise supplement line staff when needed.
• Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

• Oversee the rental application process by providing interested parties with necessary documentation, rental agreements, and pricing details.
• Collect and review rental applications, ensuring all required information is complete and accurate.
• Provide timely updates to both renters and internal stakeholders regarding rental status, payment deadlines, and any changes to rental arrangements.
• Maintain organized records of rental bookings, payments, and rental agreements, ensuring compliance with rental policies and procedures.

These are seasonal positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) that receive no City benefits.  Job training is anticipated to begin in early May with employment lasting through late Fall.  Shifts will average 8 hours per day/4-5 days per week.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest departments in the State.

This position is fully funded through the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MPWA) and will directly support the mission of wildfire preparedness and mitigation, and community safety.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Perform defensible space inspections and wildfire risk evaluations in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening and defensible space strategies. 
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.
• Collect and input data and images into electronic devices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.
• Be self-motivated, work independently to complete assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Interpret and explain fire prevention services, policies and procedures.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with stake holders to ensure that assigned fire prevention coordination efforts are successful.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• In accordance with State legal requirements, applicants must be at least 18 years old by the application filing deadline.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• A background in customer service or public service.
• Ability to speak, write, and read Spanish is desired but not necessary.

About the Position:  Midpen's Board approved the addition of two new Planner III positions to the Planning Department. The Planner III focuses on a wide variety of planning and capital improvement projects that include long-range planning; land use planning; and conceptual site design to increase public access, outdoor recreation, and enjoyment of Midpen’s lands. The Planner III is tasked with performing complex professional level planning, analysis, and design; developing and administering project scopes, schedules and budgets; directing the feasibility and conceptual design phase of capital improvement projects such as trails, staging areas and staff facilities; developing recommendations for land use policies; preparing long-range master plans to guide the use and management of Midpen lands; conducting or overseeing studies to identify and evaluate environmental issues related to public access and natural and cultural resources; conducting public outreach and engagement; preparing requests for proposals; assisting in development of grant applications; preparing and/or assisting in the preparation of environmental review documents; and obtaining planning permits and initial approvals for projects. Work Environment:  This position is part of the Planning Department at the District’s offices in Los Altos, California.  Planner III project presentations may be held in the evenings and weekends. In addition to working in the office, the Planner III will sometimes work in the field and hike through steep terrain and wildland areas.  Field work will require driving in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and blustery to hot and dry. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in urban or regional planning, environmental planning or design, environmental sciences, landscape architecture or a related field, and at least three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience with five (5) years desired in project management (design, planning or environmental review projects), preferably in parks, open space or related field, including at least one (1) year of direct supervisory and administrative responsibility (which can include management of consultant team).

TEMPORARY POTTERY INSTRUCTOR

Hours: 3 to 9 hours/week. Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).  

Recreation Services Division is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in employment as a pottery instructor for adults. Under general supervision of the Recreation Services Coordinator, pottery instructors are responsible for teaching pottery techniques through lecture and demonstrations.  Classes are run year-round and meet once a week for 3 hours. Class sessions are six weeks long and include a week break for cleaning and restocking after two consecutive class sessions (every 12 weeks).

• Teach pottery/ceramic classes by leading and demonstrating techniques associated with the subject matter
• Maintain a safe, friendly and inclusive class environment for all participants
• Adjust class as appropriate and as needed to meet the various skill levels of participants
• Develop curriculum for each class meeting
• Knowledge of glazing and firing techniques
• Develop projects to keep class interesting for both regular and repeat participants
• Maintain documentation as required
• Report to work in a timely manner and appropriately prepared

WORKING CONDITIONS

THE POSITION
The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, responsible individual interested in assisting with the administration and supervision of After School, Camp, Contracted Classes, Pre-School and Teen Programs.  The Project/Grant Assistant 1 aids in the planning, administration and implementation of all programs hosted through the Recreation Services Division, Youth and Teen Unit.

Essential Job Functions

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

• Assist Recreation Services Coordinators in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of programs for Pre-School, Camp, Teen, After School and special events;
• Train and supervise part-time staff, as well as assist with staff recruitment and development;
• Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of program such as preparing activity/staff schedules and calendars, collect registration information, tabulate participant evaluations, purchasing supplies, maintaining inventory, cover open shifts, record keeping, program quality assurance or giving staff direction;
