ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for enthusiastic and energetic Office Assistant I to support our newly established Utilities Department. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of something groundbreaking for our agency and for the Gilroy community. As an Office Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations and be the backbone for all administrative efforts and providing stellar support for the team. The Office Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Utilities Director and will also assist the Management Analyst with data quality and reporting. The Office Assistant must be highly organized, detailed oriented, and efficient and effective with the use of their time. Additionally, the person filling this position must be self-motivated, self-directed, committed to providing quality results.  The work environment is both supportive and fast paced. Day to day, the Deputy Director will assist in the management and administration of the Recreation Department. The Deputy Director will direct a team of four Recreation Supervisors and their respective divisions and facilities. He/she will also work with the Director to establish and refine best practices for the creation, implementation, and delivery of recreation programming and services. Additionally, the incumbent will assist with the development and coordination of the City’s Parks and Recreation Commission, as well as its Arts Commission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Including but not limited to):

•  Assists Director in supervision and administrative control over the organization, staffing, and operation of the Recreation Department and the 29,000 square foot Community Center.
• Engages in strategic thinking to develop and implement goals, objectives, priorities and policies.
• Provides staff assistance to the Director; provides interdepartmental support on various projects; develops and recommends modifications to recreation programs, facilities, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
• Conducts and supervises wide variety of special projects including policy analysis and development, program and facility development and customer service enhancement.
• Prepares a variety of regular and special reports and records on operations and activities related to the Recreation Department; develops professional service contracts, requests for qualification and proposal and completes grant applications and proposals.
• Responds to and resolves citizen inquiries and complaints and controversial issues.
• Represents the Department and the Director on various occasions and serves on a variety of internal and external committees. Acts in the absence of the Director.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a full-time Environmental Programs Manager in our Public Works Department. In this exciting opportunity the Environmental Programs Manager (EPM) will be at the forefront of shaping and implementing environmental initiatives that have a lasting impact on our community.  The EPM will work under the supervision of the Public Works Director and will oversee a comprehensive environmental protection program and ensure compliance in the areas of solid waste, waste reduction, recycling, green waste, municipal stormwater system, and energy and natural resources conservation. About the Position:  This position requires the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.

The Accounting Technician performs a variety of routine to complex administrative and technical duties related to payroll and other accounting support duties. Top candidates have experience working with financial systems, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology and information systems.

• review, post, balance, reconcile, and maintain accurate and confidential accounting and payroll records,

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator II – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification, community CPR/First Aid classes and JR Lifeguard program.  This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator I- Aquatics programs to support division goals and activities).

The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7-day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator II schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Recruit, hire, manage, train, schedule, audit, discipline and evaluate staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers.
• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.
