DEFINITION:

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSISTANT

Under close supervision, the Assistant Transit Planner is responsible for providing entry level support to assist in the development, administration and analysis of the City’s public transit programs.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSISTANT

This is the entry-level class in the Transit Planner series and will receive direction and guidance from the Transit Manager. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves assisting in analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City. The Transit Planner Assistant has basic knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning. An incumbent may advance to the higher levels after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSOCIATE

This is an experienced-level class within the Transit Planner series and will receive general direction from the Transit Manager. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves general analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City resulting in recommendations based on the incumbent’s work. The Transit Planner Associate has general knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning.

• Assist in/Evaluates* the planning, operations and activities of the City’s public transit programs (fixed route, paratransit, and microtransit).
• Assist in/Coordinates* a variety of studies for the preparation, analysis, or evaluation of reports and grant requests.
• Assist in/Prepares* the development of regularly occurring required plans or programs such as the Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP), Title VI and Language Assistance Plan (LAP), Transit Asset Management (TAM) Plan, and Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).

THE POSITION:  

Under general supervision, the Shelter Volunteer Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, implementation and review of the Animal Care Volunteer Program; assists with recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluation of volunteer staff; performs community liaison functions, coordinates public relations activities; humane education programs and performs related work as required.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a volunteer coordinator working in an animal shelter. The candidate will have experience handling shelter animals and be able to train volunteers how to safely handle animals. The candidate will have experience in volunteer program development as well as the ability to analyze volunteer program data for retention. The ideal candidate will have some experience using the Chameleon software for animal management.  

Essential Duties

What you will do:   

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
 
Recruits, interviews, recommends, orients, trains and evaluates volunteers; schedules their daily work assignments and activities to assure maximum program coverage and effectiveness;
 
Ensures that all departmental procedures are followed.
 
Under direction from the Animal Services Administrator, responds to volunteer complaints and conflicts that may arise.
 
Maintains a system for tracking volunteer program hours, schedules, skills and abilities, as well as performance measures.
 
Maintains and physically organizes volunteer work areas, files and records.
 
Prepares annual report on volunteer hours and activities.

Under general direction, develops and implements policies and procedures for implementing various volunteer, shelter and community programs; works with Animal Services Bureau Administrator to identify needs and opportunities for utilization of unpaid staff, and to design programs to fill those needs.
 
Designs and develops training and orientation programs in a variety of areas including volunteer program procedures, applicable laws and department policies, techniques for dealing effectively with the public, and the proper and humane handling of animals.
 
Assists with production and update of volunteer training manuals and volunteer job descriptions.
 
Coordinates ongoing training opportunities for volunteers to enhance their skills and keep them engaged; implements a system to provide volunteers with consistent recognition to increase volunteer retention.
 
Coordinates volunteer meetings and annual Volunteer Recognition event.
 
Coordinates and attends meetings with Volunteer Coordinators from other Animal Care Services and volunteer organizations in the Bay Area.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. The City of Berkeley is seeking a Housing Development Specialist (Community Development Project Coordinator)! In this role you will have the opportunity to be part of the team responsible for implementing the City’s Housing Trust Fund and Small Sites Programs. This position will work on renovations and new construction projects, the latter of which will include developments at the North Berkeley and Ashby BART sites. Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

Under the supervision of the Building/Code Compliance Coordinator and the Chief Building Official/Senior Plans Examiner, the Building/Code Compliance Inspector performs work in the areas of building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, green, zoning, and residential fire protection inspections; various aspects of code enforcement; and other duties as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level, professional class that is expected to read plans, make code interpretations, have comprehensive knowledge of construction materials and techniques, and be able to perform field inspections (both Building and Code Enforcement) on their own.

This position is distinguished from the next higher class of Senior Building/Code Compliance Inspector by the latter providing training, technical advice, and lead assistance to incumbent inspectors. The Building/Code Compliance Inspector is further distinguished from the lower level of Building/Code Compliance Trainee in that the latter is the entry-level class, and is in training, learning the full scope of the assigned duties and responsibilities.
