CIVIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellowship program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local work force and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program, fellows will work with a city department and participate in program-wide activities.
Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours per week. For more information, visit cityofwoodland.org/1429/Civic-Fellowship-Program.
*This fellowship posting is for the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) Camp Manager at the Library. Please note that this position will start on June 3 (two weeks before Civic Fellow programming starts).
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The STEAM Camp Manager runs the day-to-day operations of Maker Camp in Square One, a six (6) week summer camp for Woodland residents, aged 8-12. Responsibilities include:
- Developing camp curriculum for upper-grade school students
- Establishing Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) -themed weeks for campers with little to no STEM experience
- Learning how to safely use makerspace equipment for Square One activity and to supplement camp activities
- Managing support staff, compiling supply lists and purchase requests for the Makerspace Librarian
- Integrating camp activities with library programming (Lunch at the Library, Summer Reading, children’s programming)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the designated City employee.
IDEA CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate would be a college graduate or college student nearing completion looking for experience in STEM teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of high school education
- Local Woodland knowledge preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and perform multiple tasks with accuracy
- Possess a high degree of initiative
- Excellent meeting facilitation skills, including the ability to effectively present information to a wide variety of audiences
- Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of a second language is beneficial

Salary Range
$19.00 - $24.00 / hour dependent on experience.
