CIVIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellowship program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local work force and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program., fellows will work with a city department and participate in program-wide activities.

This fellowship posting is for the Parking Enforcement and Public Safety Fellow in the Police Department.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Police Department as a Parking Enforcement and Public Safety Fellow. In this role, the Fellow will actively contribute to the enhancement of their knowledge and skills in parking enforcement, traffic management, and public safety. The key responsibilities include deepening understanding of parking regulations, enforcement procedures, and legal aspects associated with issuing warnings or citations. The Fellow will actively participate in routine patrols, stay updated on local ordinances, and engage in continuous learning opportunities. Additionally, the Fellow will focus on developing skills related to traffic management and public safety, including the identification of potential safety hazards, efficient traffic flow management, and collaboration with law enforcement officers to address public safety concerns. This role aims to cultivate a well-rounded skill set that extends beyond regulatory enforcement to actively contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community. Furthermore, the Fellow will be tasked with mastering abandoned vehicle handling procedures. This involves gaining expertise in coordinating the removal of vehicles that pose safety or hindrance issues. The Fellow will strive to understand the logistical intricacies, legal requirements, and community impact of towing abandoned vehicles, becoming a valuable asset in addressing and resolving challenges related to abandoned vehicles effectively.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the designated City employee.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate would be enrolled in a relevant academic program (e.g., Criminal Justice, Public Administration) with a strong interest in law enforcement, parking enforcement, and public safety. A driver’s license is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of high school education
- Local Woodland knowledge preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning
- Ability to work under pressure and perform multiple tasks with accuracy
- Ability to collaborate effectively with law enforcement officers and community members
- Possess a high degree of initiative
- Knowledge of a second language is beneficial.
License: A valid California Driver’s License
