THE POSITION
The Maintenance Services Division of the Public Works Department is seeking an experienced Building Maintenance Worker to provide maintenance support for all public facilities, such as City Hall, Historic Homes, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities and Rental Housing. This position is focused on the area of general maintenance, with an emphasis on locksmithing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- General Assignments
- Work independently to install, troubleshoot, repair, service, and maintain all aspects within the scope of general maintenance and locksmithing.
- Build, assemble, transport, install and/or repair facility furnishings and fixtures.
- Assist Building Maintenance Field Supervisor in coordination of work, requisitioning of supplies and inspection of work performed by contractors.
- Provide training and guidance to other trades workers. --
- Provide onsite coordination/consultation with and communication to, outside contractors regarding the location and repair of systems and structures bordering the area involved in the contract work.
General Maintenance Assignments
-Maintain and reconfigure systems furniture.
- Install, repair, and maintain floor coverings such as carpet, VCT tile, ceramic tile, linoleum, etc.
- Maintain, repair, and construct roof systems.
Carpentry/Metal Working Assignments
- Perform rough and finish maintenance carpentry on commercial, public, and residential buildings.
- Install, repair, or replace walls, doors, windows, building hardware, fencing and gates.
- Perform construction carpentry and cabinet making.
- Fabricate wood structures and fixtures using common power tools.
- Fabricate and weld metal structures and fixtures.
Locksmithing Assignments
- Perform maintenance and repair work on commercial doors
- Install, maintain, and repair surface mount and concealed door closers
- Install, repair, and maintain commercial grade security hardware such as panic bars and mortise locks
- Perform key duplication and the rekeying of locksets using the Master Key System
- Pin locks from various manufacturers such as Best, Sargent, Falcon, Master; both pin and wafer style locks.
- Pick cabinet locks, padlocks, and entry locksets.
- Work with electronic card access control devices.
Painting Assignments
- Prepare, wash, patch, and sand surfaces to be painted or stained.
- Install, repair, or replace drywall, tape, mud, texture, and plaster.
- Paint a variety of interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spraying equipment.
- Repair, remove, and hang wallpaper.
- Use stain, varnish, and lacquer in finishing cabinets, countertops, doors, and other surfaces.
- Use metal primers and paints to coat metal surfaces.
