Librarian II: Technology Services: 

 

The Technology Services Librarian will have primary responsibility for overseeing all in-house technology in the Downtown Library and Weekes Branch, including: 
 

• Coordinating the Library’s Makerspace, Digital Media Lab, and Public Computer Lab, including providing tech support to public and staff computers.  
• Serving as the liaison to the City IT department 
• Working with library vendors to curate and manage the library’s e-resources, including e-books and databases.  
• Supervising staff assigned to the Tech Lab, Makerspace, Digital Media Lab, and Public Computer Lab. 
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.  

 

 Librarian II: Marketing and Outreach:
 

The Marketing and Outreach Librarian will have primary responsibility for overseeing the library’s Outreach Division, which includes:  

 

• Coordinating the library’s bookmobile and techmobile services, and community hub.  
• Coordinating library marketing, including social media, newsletters, and the library’s website.  
• Coordinating off-site and on-site programming and collaboration requests.  
• Serving as the liaison to the City’s Publicity/PR Department 
• Supervising staff assigned to outreach services.  
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.  

Librarian II: Education Services:
 

The Education Services Librarian II will have primary responsibility for coordinating the library’s Education Services Division, which includes:  

 

• Program development and implementation of cradle to senior programs in collaboration with community partners.  
• Early childhood development programming, K-12 after-school support programs, adult literacy, summer programming, and citizenship programming.  
• Serving as a liaison to schools and institutions of higher learning.  
• Overseeing multiple federal and state grants.  
• Supervising staff assigned to the Education Services division.  
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the functions of a major service area of the library.

Makes recommendations on selection and withdrawal of books, periodicals, display materials, and audio or video or e-materials by reading reviews, and other sources, and keeping up with current trends and making recommendations to the Director of Library Services.
 
Performs reference and readers advisory work in person, by telephone or other communication means, by verifying the patrons' needs through the reference interview process, and answering questions or exploring alternative sources of information such as other resources, agencies and libraries.

Updates factual material and coordinates loan services with other libraries. Assesses technology needs, evaluates system needs and makes recommendations for purchasing or improving equipment and programs based on current industry standards.
 
Serves as a liaison to the IT department for testing and supporting computer devices, library software, and infrastructure needs; provides basic technical assistance to library staff and patrons; and plans technology related training and programming for staff and the public.
 
Independently performs complex cataloging and classification review and related activities as assigned.
 
Directs or participates in community programs such as library tours for community groups, special programs for children and adults including technology services and on-site visits to the library.
 
Attends job-related meetings such as weekly staff meetings, Bay Area Library Information Systems meetings and/or other area meetings.
 
Prepares and submits performance evaluations on staff.

Prepares and submits timely and informative reports on projects as needed, including recommendations regarding resources and budgetary needs.

THE POSITION:

The Facilities Carpenter I is an entry level classification in the carpentry series. Carpenters in this class are assigned routine skilled carpentry tasks. Under the training concept of growing excellence in craft, positions allocated to the Facilities Carpenter II level which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the I level. 
 

The Facilities Carpenter II is responsible for performing a variety of skilled carpentry and related tasks in the construction, remodeling, repair, and maintenance of City facilities. This the journey level classification within the carpenter series. Incumbents at this level act with independence, handle "master" craftworker projects, and assume the more complex activities which would otherwise require the attention and coordination of the Facilities and Building Manager. 

 

 

Essential Duties

What you will do: 

Depending on assignment, duties may include but are not limited to the following:  
 

1. Remodels offices in City facilities. Takes down walls, doors and windows, reinstalls new walls and cuts in new doorways.

2. Installs, repairs and replaces doors, door closures, windows, floors, roofs, and other structural appurtenances.

3. Builds and repairs wooden fixtures and office furniture of all kinds.

4. Fabricates new cabinets, bookshelves and countertops.

5. Performs maintenance and repair work on all city buildings, rental units, and on private residences involving Police damage to the premises.

6. Rescreens screen doors and window screens.

7. Fabricates tack boards and bulletin boards.

8. May perform allied craft work in the course of maintaining City facilities.

DEFINITION:

Under general direction, manages and directs the Accounting Division of the Finance Department, including the budget development process and preparation of the budget book; budget monitoring, analysis and reporting; short- and long-range fiscal forecasting; ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures; and capital planning.  The Accounting Manager trains and evaluates assigned staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

This is a single position classification at the managerial level in the Finance Department responsible for managing the budget and accounting functions. The Accounting Manager has a broad range of independence within policy and procedural limitations and works under minimal supervision. The incumbent is accountable to the Finance Director for the quality and efficiency of services directed.  The Accounting Manager is expected to provide resources, system support, and oversight to all subordinate professional and paraprofessional staff. This position is responsible for the successful planning and implementation of the citywide budget process and the day-to-day accounting operations.  

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Plan, organize, direct and evaluate the activities of the Accounting Division including general accounting, accounts payable and payroll.
• Recommend the appointment of personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; work with employees on performance issues; and implement disciplinary procedures.
• Prepare, review and maintain journal entries and general ledger postings and supporting financial records and supervise the maintenance of the General Ledger.           

• Conduct and coordinate the annual audit and serve as the liaison between the City and the external auditors, provide requested information and necessary documentation for completion of the audit, and ensure timely completion of the audit, State Controller’s Office reports and other compliance reports as required.
• Oversee reconciliations of the City’s financial activities including bank accounts and investments, month-end and year-end close processes and prepare related reports.

Temporary Maintenance Worker – Parks & Roadsides 

Salary: $20.00/hour

 

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

 

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position. 
• Flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week, which may include weekend work; not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

General supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. May exercise supervision of Work Alternative Program participants as assigned. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES 

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:  

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play. 
• Assist Maintenance Services personnel on assigned projects.  

• Perform duties within OSHA standards. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge of: 

• Construction and maintenance materials, methods, and terminology. 

• The use, purposes and maintenance of hand tools; and the operation of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment in performing duties.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Desirable qualifications include a master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field.  

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Supervising Librarian at the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the physical facility, supervision of professional, technical, and support staff, and providing reference and reader advisory services for the public. You will also represent Berkeley Public Library in meetings with the public, citizen groups, and other agencies.

This recruitment will create an eligible list that will be used by various Library divisions to fill future temporary and/or career positions in the next 12 months.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is:
Equivalent to graduation from college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements include the ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program's needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have lead or supervisory experience.
