The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Solid Waste Supervisor in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Zero Waste Operations Manager and the Solid Waste Supervisor(s) on a daily basis to ensure that all operations are carried out safely and in compliance with environmental obligations. In addition, this role oversees the onboarding and recurring training programs for Solid Waste Workers and Drivers; interacts with the Division Manager to implement initiatives, policies, and procedures; and works closely to resolve customer service issues that arise at the council level.

The Senior Solid Waste Supervisor also works closely with peers across all operations to ensure consistent safety and operational standards and performance. Furthermore, this position leads the implementation of new routing and customer data management systems, participates in equipment purchase committees, and determines the staffing and resources needed to achieve desired operational goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) years of increasingly responsible journey level experience in integrated solid waste collection, diversion and disposal which included two (2) years at the level equivalent to the Solid Waste Supervisor class.

Other requirements include possession of a valid class "C" California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Candidates must be willing to work evening, early morning, holidays, and weekend shifts. Candidates must report changes in status of driver’s license.

• Coordinating off-site and on-site programming and collaboration requests.

Librarian II: Education Services:
 

The Education Services Librarian II will have primary responsibility for coordinating the library’s Education Services Division, which includes:  

 

• Program development and implementation of cradle to senior programs in collaboration with community partners.  
• Early childhood development programming, K-12 after-school support programs, adult literacy, summer programming, and citizenship programming.  
• Serving as a liaison to schools and institutions of higher learning.  
• Overseeing multiple federal and state grants.  
• Supervising staff assigned to the Education Services division.  
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the functions of a major service area of the library.

Makes recommendations on selection and withdrawal of books, periodicals, display materials, and audio or video or e-materials by reading reviews, and other sources, and keeping up with current trends and making recommendations to the Director of Library Services.
 
Performs reference and readers advisory work in person, by telephone or other communication means, by verifying the patrons' needs through the reference interview process, and answering questions or exploring alternative sources of information such as other resources, agencies and libraries.

Updates factual material and coordinates loan services with other libraries. Assesses technology needs, evaluates system needs and makes recommendations for purchasing or improving equipment and programs based on current industry standards.
 
Serves as a liaison to the IT department for testing and supporting computer devices, library software, and infrastructure needs; provides basic technical assistance to library staff and patrons; and plans technology related training and programming for staff and the public.
 
Independently performs complex cataloging and classification review and related activities as assigned.
 
Directs or participates in community programs such as library tours for community groups, special programs for children and adults including technology services and on-site visits to the library.

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. Our senior programs provide opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older, to engage in active and healthy programming. The Church Lane Senior Center hosts a congregate lunch program, numerous senior focused special events, weekday door-to-door transportation service (managed by a different full-time coordinator) and drop- in programs and classes. Supervision

This position reports to the Chief of Construction. Assorted tasks may be supervised by the Construction Services Manager and the Construction Project Analyst.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The Position

The Solid Waste Manager reports directly to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for the administration of multiple integrated waste management contracts and programs within the Environmental Services Division. This position supervises a team of technical staff who execute various integrated solid waste management activities and may serve as the division head in the absence of the Environmental Services Manager.

Examples of Duties

• Manage multiple City franchise agreements for solid waste collection, material transfer and recovery, and landfill disposal including negotiating contract terms and monitoring performance.
• Oversee the division’s solid waste programs including planning, organizing, and implementing programs to create environmentally sound and cost-effective methods for the disposal of garbage and household hazardous waste, recovery of recyclables, diversion of organic material, and waste prevention.
• Plan, develop, and oversee the work of integrated waste management staff, providing leadership and fostering staff development.
• Receive and respond to complex customer service requests concerning scope of program, technical information, and service delivery issues.
• Oversee the Division’s public education, outreach, and special events to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable behavior.
• Analyze proposed legislation affecting integrated waste management activities, develops and implements program and policies to ensure City compliance with regulatory mandates.
• Conduct analysis and prepare reports and documents as required by regulatory agencies and for City Council study sessions and meetings.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration.
