THE POSITION:

Under general direction by management staff or the Director of Library Services, the Librarian II performs a variety of professional and para-professional duties in support of a modern library and community learning center.

Librarian II: Technology Services: 

 

The Technology Services Librarian will have primary responsibility for overseeing all in-house technology in the Downtown Library and Weekes Branch, including: 
 

• Coordinating the Library’s Makerspace, Digital Media Lab, and Public Computer Lab, including providing tech support to public and staff computers.  
• Serving as the liaison to the City IT department 
• Working with library vendors to curate and manage the library’s e-resources, including e-books and databases.  
• Supervising staff assigned to the Tech Lab, Makerspace, Digital Media Lab, and Public Computer Lab. 
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.  

 

 Librarian II: Marketing and Outreach:
 

The Marketing and Outreach Librarian will have primary responsibility for overseeing the library’s Outreach Division, which includes:  

 

• Coordinating the library’s bookmobile and techmobile services, and community hub.  
• Coordinating library marketing, including social media, newsletters, and the library’s website.  
• Coordinating off-site and on-site programming and collaboration requests.  
• Serving as the liaison to the City’s Publicity/PR Department 
• Supervising staff assigned to outreach services.  
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.  

Librarian II: Education Services:
 

The Education Services Librarian II will have primary responsibility for coordinating the library’s Education Services Division, which includes:  

 

• Program development and implementation of cradle to senior programs in collaboration with community partners.  
• Early childhood development programming, K-12 after-school support programs, adult literacy, summer programming, and citizenship programming.  
• Serving as a liaison to schools and institutions of higher learning.  
• Overseeing multiple federal and state grants.  
• Supervising staff assigned to the Education Services division.  
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the functions of a major service area of the library.

Makes recommendations on selection and withdrawal of books, periodicals, display materials, and audio or video or e-materials by reading reviews, and other sources, and keeping up with current trends and making recommendations to the Director of Library Services.
 
Performs reference and readers advisory work in person, by telephone or other communication means, by verifying the patrons' needs through the reference interview process, and answering questions or exploring alternative sources of information such as other resources, agencies and libraries.

Updates factual material and coordinates loan services with other libraries. Assesses technology needs, evaluates system needs and makes recommendations for purchasing or improving equipment and programs based on current industry standards.
 
Serves as a liaison to the IT department for testing and supporting computer devices, library software, and infrastructure needs; provides basic technical assistance to library staff and patrons; and plans technology related training and programming for staff and the public.
 
Independently performs complex cataloging and classification review and related activities as assigned.
 
Directs or participates in community programs such as library tours for community groups, special programs for children and adults including technology services and on-site visits to the library.
 
Attends job-related meetings such as weekly staff meetings, Bay Area Library Information Systems meetings and/or other area meetings.
 
Prepares and submits performance evaluations on staff.

Prepares and submits timely and informative reports on projects as needed, including recommendations regarding resources and budgetary needs.

The Construction Services Manager will directly perform a variety of new construction, skilled building and grounds repair and restoration work, supervises construction crews of staff, and manages the work of licensed contractors. The Construction Services Manager is responsible for the management and completion of repair and improvement projects at a variety of park facilities and locations.

This is skills-based physical labor work, in all weather conditions, for a person at an intermediate level. The work performed will support MRCA’s operation of nature parks within greater Los Angeles and other MRCA efforts related to public access, open space conservation, habitat restoration, and urban park development.

Supervision

The position reports to the Division Chief. Assorted tasks may be supervised by the Deputy Executive Officer. The position supervises 6-12 other staff.

The Position

The Park Maintenance Worker I performs routine maintenance and repair work in the care of parks, recreation areas and equipment. Based on vehicle availability, most crew members are assigned a truck and gas card soon after a probationary period.

The majority of MRCA properties are open to the general public. Parking lots, shared public/office restrooms and in-person meeting rooms are open during regular business hours. The Park Assistant III (Class: 180) will perform a variety of skilled park maintenance work. Duties for the Developed Resources division also include repairs to utility infrastructure, building repairs, and skilled gardening, and assistance during special events.

Duties for the Construction division also include building renovation (carpentry, electrical, plumbing), utility infrastructure repairs, and new construction of park amenities and irrigation systems.

Supervision

Depending on the division, the position may report to an Operations Manager, Deputy Division Chief or Division Chief. The position does not supervise other staff but may occasionally direct the work of volunteers, court crews, seasonal workers, volunteers, and youth crews. The employee may work independently or as part of a crew.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance, plant care, facility/building maintenance or related field.

Training and Certification

• Must have a valid California driver’s license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record at the time of hire.
• Pesticide Handler certification (or ability to complete within 6 months).
• Basic First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to complete within 6 months).
• Forklift Operator / heavy equipment certification (or ability to complete within 6 months).

Knowledge of:

• Safe working practices, Cal-OSHA requirements.
• Automatic Irrigation systems.
• Pesticide and herbicide application.
• Proper tool care and storage.
• Basic proficiency in email and Office 365, or ability to learn.
• Regulatory requirements, or ability to learn.
• Bilingual skills in English and another locally common language, such as Spanish, Korean, Farsi, Chinese, Armenian, Yiddish, or Tagalog is highly desired.

Ability to:

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• Consistently follow procedures.
• Prioritize varying tasks and projects.
• Work in all weather conditions. Perform demanding labor on multiple consecutive days outdoors in hot weather.

• Complete the MRCA Wildland Fire Academy, if desired by the employee.
• Read maps and navigate through greater Los Angeles in both urban developed and undeveloped open space areas.

• Effective oral English language skills. Not required to be a native English speaker, but fluency in English will be required.
• Follow safety procedures and utilize/wear protective equipment as needed.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work including the general public.

THE POSITIONS

Under direct supervision, the Public Service Assistant II will perform litter/trash pick-up, barbeque maintenance, leaf/debris pick-up, and miscellaneous park duties in Central Park and other community parks.  The Public Service Assistant II will also perform related duties as assigned.
 
WORK SCHEDULE

The positions work up to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week and may be required to work a regular shift that includes evening and weekend hours. These temporary assignments are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
 
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

- Pick up and remove trash and litter from various City of Fremont parks
- Maintain park barbeques
- Leaf/debris cleanup
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
