Under direct supervision of the Pool Supervisor, The Lifeguard has the responsibility to enforce the safety standards, rules, and regulations of the City’s Pool program; to rescue swimmers in distress and administer First Aid and CPR when it is needed; This position includes ensuring the safety of all pool patrons, be alert of all activities in and around the pool while on duty and to assist with general maintenance and cleanup activities and performs related work as required.  Work is performed in a swimming facility environment, with frequent contact with City staff and the public.  Multiple Lifeguard positions are available.

Tact and diplomacy; dependability; maturity; sufficient to assume the responsibility of protecting the lives of others; willingness to conform to prescribed uniform standards.  Unique physical characteristics include – physical strength, endurance, and agility necessary to perform lifesaving activities; visual acuity and hearing in each ear are sufficient to complete the job's essential functions.  Must be observant, friendly, helpful, enthusiastic, responsible, and work well in a team.  Must pass a general background check and fingerprinting to determine suitability for working with children.

Pre-Requisites (Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:)

1. Education and Experiences: 

1. 1. Lifeguard I – Completion of the 10th grade (Must be at Least 16 Years Old) and possession of advanced lifesaving or water safety Instructor’s Certificate.  Valid Driver’s License. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.  American Red Cross First Aid (either multi-media, standard, or advanced).  American Red Cross or American Heart of Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate. 

1. 2. Lifeguard II – Graduation from high school and/or GED and experience as a lifeguard and possessing advanced lifesaving or water safety Instructor’s Certificate.  Valid Driver’s License. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.  American Red Cross First Aid (either multi-media, standard, or advanced).  American Red Cross or American Heart of Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.   

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Recreation and Community Engagement, the Pool Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and administration of the aquatic facility. Responsibilities include but are not limited to enforcing policies and procedures which ensure the efficient and effective operation of pool facilities, including personnel management and training. Duties involve all swimming pool operations, including first aid, rotations, scheduling for Staff, public relations, and light janitorial duties. Collect entrance fees, authorization forms, and logs as required. Provide Lifeguard services when needed.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate Preferred. American Red Cross First Aid (either multi-media, standard, or advanced) is preferred. American Red Cross or American Heart of Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/AED) Certificate is Preferred. If the applicant is not certified and would like to be, the City of Chowchilla would pay for the training classes required as long as certification is obtained before the swim season begins.
   2. Pool/Spa Operator Certificate Preferred
   3. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Preferred 

SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

Part-time Position

Summary Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits.  Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:

• Implement all daily activities of a given program, including administration of program curriculum, leading program activities, monitoring and enforcing program rules and regulations, maintaining a safe environment and collecting any necessary paperwork.
• Instruct program participants in rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to program guidelines and enforce rules.
•      Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
•      Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance and storage of all program supplies and equipment.
•      Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.
•      Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.
•      Assist with training and directing staff and volunteers to ensure program activities are accomplished.
•      Provide information and open communication with appropriate individuals.
•      Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

The City is currently accepting applications to fill several part-time, hourly positions to work in the theatres at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center.  Under the direction of the Technical Supervisors and the theatre department leads, the Stagehands assist with a variety of tasks related to theatre operations and maintenance.  The schedule will involve working up to 19 hours per week, depending on assignment.  The schedule includes working nights, weekends, and holidays.  On occasion, the position may involve working additional hours in a week.

Primary responsibilities:  

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of theatre sound, lighting, and/or rigging systems during rehearsals, performances, concerts, and meetings
• Assist in loading, unloading, fabrication, installation, and operation of lighting, sound, wardrobe and rigging systems and manipulation of props in theatrical settings
• Perform heavy manual labor
